Yesterday my oldest son discovered he had a flat on his car, when he got off work at 5am. With all this Coronavirus stuff going on, his money situation is tight. I had him drop his car of at the tire shop and picked him up. Around 8am we went back to the tire shop. I told them I wanted two new tires because the other front tier was in bad shape. They said it should be ready by noon, they were shot handed.
We went back to the house and my son crashed in the spare bedroom. At around 10:30 the tire shop called and said the alignment on the car was off and the rear tires were worse then the front and that the flat tire was the best looking tire of all. I told them to do the alignment and put four new tires on.
At 11:30 I go the call the car was ready. I woke my son up and we went to the tire shop. When he saw his car in the parking lot, he said “What the hell, they put four new tires on my car”. I told him that I had them do it.
I was lucky that the tires were on sale for $109 and the total cost was under $800.
Now you may be asking yourself, what does a tire story have to do with buying gun related stuff. Well I hate having to spend money on things I don’t need. My son says he will pay me back, but still, it was money I had not planned to spend. But spending money on gun stuff always makes me feel good. So I drove over to the LGS where they had a used Century C93. The store owner is a friend and told me the guy he bought it from said it was a great shooter. It was priced $799. My friend said make an offer. I said $500 with a smile. He laughed and said he had more then that in the rifle. He said that he had $575 tied up in the rifle. I told him that I knew that used guns is where he made his money, and offered him $675, $200 today and I would pay it off in a week or two. He said deal.
After he rang it up and handed me the receipt I saw that the balance was $469.99. I asked if he made a mistake and he said no, just gave you a better deal.
Tax here is 10% so he sold me the rifle for $602.99. It helps to have friends with gun stores. Y
This is the same shop that I dropped off 1000 rounds each of 9mm and 5.56 when they had ran out the other week.
Here’s the pics I took at the shop. I’ll post more when I pick it up.

Nice ! I used a H&K 93 for 15 years 1980-95 as I was NOT into ARs since 1968 in VN soured me on them. The 93 never missed a beat in many thousands of rounds and being banged all over the Sierras. By the 90s I had my sons lugging it around on our long mountain treks. I had the factory collapible stock and early on I found the wooden boxed factory .22LR conversion kit which also worked 100 %. My only complaint with the gun was it beat hell out of the ammo and flipped it into the next county. The gun is now in the hands of one of my sons and he had it cerrokoted. Those factory claw mounts scope mounts are the bomb IMHO.

Thanks for the pictures. I actually like the paint pattern which I rarely do on black rifles. The karma from your good deeds on the tires and ammo got repaid pretty quickly.

It's called Karma and it works both ways. You done good so good was returned to you.

The C93 has always interested me, mostly because hk was such a big deal when I was a kid. My early century CETME runs like a top so I know century can make good products. Nice pick Gunny!

If you ask both of my Ex-wives, they will tell you that I wasn’t always a nice person, the first one said something about me being clod and mean when pushed by someone. But that was just the Marine in me. My second Ex tells people that I can be a cold hearted @#%. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve gotten a little softer, or that’s what my daughter says. But I still have a low tolerance for stupid people.
But when it comes to guns and shooting, people say that I’m a pretty nice gun.

A really good local gun shop is a pretty special place...and worth everyone’s support.

Since you could say I’m in the fishing industry, it’s worth pointing that good local tackle shops... get fewer and fewer each year in comparison.

My wife's van needed new brakes. I took it to my trusted mechanic and told them to do all the rotors and pads. The mechanic I had trusted all these years charged me $607. That's about $200 too high in my estimation for a job that took about 1/2 hour. NO more business with that shop!
I was planning another CMP M1 when this punch to the gut happened. I'm-a-gonna' put it on the credit card and pay it off a dollar a week!

@GunnyUSMC here's hoping the future is brighter than the past! I can relate to the trail of exs’ (2 as well) grumblings, I’ve been that kid in need of help, and that father who can now provide it. If I were a drinkin man I’d raise my glass to you for all you do at work, at home, and right here with us.

On a side note you have fantastic luck at gun shops, I wish there were even 1 around here with rifles worth buying! Do they ship to Iowa? Someday I’ll have to meander back down your way and shop. Last time through NOLA I was greeted with rain, flooded streets, and a tornado.

Had a bad tire day myself (last Fall) while driving. Got me thinking about what matters and what doesn’t.

I'm going tomorrow to buy a new set of tires for the Wife's Expedition. Just got off of the phone, getting them ordered. About $800. We have about got the good out of the original set, with 57K miles on them. I'm not up to changing a tire on the side of the road anymore, although I still can. And She is on the road some without me hauling Grandkids around. Plus, every visit to the tire store = another bucket of wheel weights! Like I need more!!!

And Kudos to Gunny for the relationship he has with his local shop.

Well, I decided to go and pick up the rifle today.
Here’s how it looked when I picked it up.

The scope is nothing special and the mount is made by NcStar 026D7031-DAA1-40B6-B51D-627731BFA333.jpeg 3657FB97-D088-43E5-A859-F14C43056765.jpeg

Here are the parts and mags that came with the rifle. The QD scope mount is by UTG.

I really didn’t care for the handrail that was on the rifle so, I put the original one on. It feels much better and lighter. I think I’m going to remove the camo finish and try something a little different.
