I run those with Unique, loaded to a OAL of 1.110, running right around 1200 FPS in my BHP

I load 6.0 gr. of Unique with Rainier 115 HP for a very accurate load in my Glock model 17 and model 26, but that would be too stout with the 124 gr. Hornady XTP.
Did you find a sweet spot with the Unique that you would be willing to share?

My hi-power had a pretty broad spot between 5.4gr and 6.0gr where it was happy, with either 115 or 124.

I went as high as 6.2gr, but I felt it had plateaued already, prior to that.
and, AND more importantly I saw no increase in FPS from the 6.0gr... which is a good sign that she's topped out.

so, long story short, I keep them at 5.8 (five point eight). I like 'em pretty zippy

and I believe it might have been caked up

Clumping has been identified as an indication of deteriorated gunpowder.





I don't know why deteriorated gunpowder clumps and I have not found any explanation. While there are those who study rotting corpses, no one seems to have made money studying clumped gunpowder. It just gets tossed away.

I can't say that all clumping is due to deterioration. Maybe some ketchup drizzled into the bottle.

I will say, if you find clumped powder, be worried.

That would be a 'no-go' at my station... I don't care if it's 1# or 8#'s...

Thankfully my powder doesn’t look anything like that. It burns well, it shoots well, it meters like crap. However, I’ve found that trickling up works just great..although much slower than drop and go. If anything, the “clumping” was limited to the very top of the container, as I can no longer detect any attraction between one granule and another...whereas I definitely had to do some de-clumping at the start. I was initially considering dumping it when I started in late summer, whereas now I’ve gotten used to the occasional sticking meter handle. It’s quite unlike cutting a stick, like VV N320, and I’d never encountered a “disc” powder.

I've got some Unique from the 80s and never had a clumping issue, but I always put it right back in the original jug as soon as I'm thru with it.
