Hi Bob

I love it. You had to buy a gun for the grips.

By the way, I have never seen a New Vaquero with a long barrel like that. I am assuming 7 1/2". I have a couple of 'original model' Vaqueros with 7 1/2" barrels, but I have never seen a New Vaquero in that barrel length. The longest barrels the Ruger website shows these days is 5 1/2".

From the looks of the hammer, it certainly looks like a New Vaquero, I have just never seen one that long.

Mine all have the 4 5/8" barrels.

Driftwood,

It is my understanding that when the New Vaquero was introduced the 7 1/2" barrel was offered but it seems they were not popular and Ruger soon dropped that barrel length. Note too, that this has the color case finish on the frame. From what I gathered from the gunshop owner, the man who bought this gun new had it restocked and died shortly after. His widow placed the gun in the shop for sale, along with several others, so I never found out who made the grips. I turned the gun around pretty quick and found out later that a forum friend of mine was looking for one just like this one.

But this one is definitely the petite New Vaquero, and has the XR-3 style grip frame.

And, as an added note, several, well many, years ago I came home with a very handsome pair of Smith & Wesson K-Frame grips. My wife casually asked me which gun they were for, and I replied, "Oh, I don't have a gun for these, yet." Later a Single Action hammer appeared on my desk. She asked,"Is that going to morph into another gun?"

Like other's here I like the overall gun especially with those faux "aged" ivory grips but could do without the jeweled hammer. Just looks kind of cheesy and out of place on an otherwise nice looking Vaquero. Let us now how it goes whenever you get a chance to try it out!

I would keep the jeweled hammer and trigger. Love'em or hate'em, they certainly add to a conversation. I'd love to find a Blackhawk like that someday. Would go well with my '50s era Single Six.

Awesome single action collection. Like the Colt New Frontier .22 (had a couple of them in my younger days but foolishly traded them away), and the Colt .44 Special New Frontier!
