There is a certain amount of incident based purchasing of weapons that when relative tranquility is restored the acquired weapons will be not see the light of day storied in the sock drawer and or placed on consignment at a gun shop. Few emergency buyers will see the need to maintain a weapon after a situation returns to normal.

You make a good point which is probably what will happen. However, I think it might go the other way. I am 78, and I have never seen a situation in the US like this. There have been a variety of viruses that have afflicted many people, but not like this one. I do not ever recall reading to hearing the daily death rates before to the extent of the illness across the nation. This one might make people more aware that horror comes without warning, and it can happen anytime with little to no notice. Who knows? People can be fickle.

maybe, but this outbreak may not be a “1 and done” situation and we may be living under some new “normals” for a while until they get a solid handle on it. May be a few years before we get to the point most will see the gun once again as a useless paperweight or a dangerous talisman.

What I fear will happen is some situation where Pappa New Gun owner convinces Mama Hoplophobe to buy a gun, loads it, and stashes it in his underwear drawer. Then, Sonny XBox Commando finds it and shoots himself or his buddy, creating a new Poster Mom for Shorty Bloomberg. .

The gun industry is worried that if business as usual returns, there will be a dramatic slump in sales.

I would prefer to fight for gun rights without the death toll. There's no upside of this crisis that is worth it.

You or I have no control over the situation that you addressed. My reference was to a psychopath killer that randomly killed from Pennsylvania to Florida. The area I resided in was in close approximation to where several of those sadistic brutal murders took place. There was a handgun buying frenzy with the majority of those buyers along with the purchase of the handgun also purchased a box of ammunition. I witnessed later over a period of years handguns plus the box of ammunition put on consignment that were apparently never fired. What you described in your reply is possible!
