Good evening. I’ve been a member here for many years, but have been far less active in the past few years just due to the busyness of life and being in the first few years of a new career in healthcare (don’t get me started on current events).
Obviously this isn’t the most ideal time to ask this question with everything going on, but for when things get back to normal...
Anybody have any recommendation for a thorough training organization in Texas? My wife and I want to take some firearms courses, possibly together, but would also really like to get a formal training on current, relevant self defense and home defense law for this state. We’ve only lived in Texas a bit over a year.
A few weeks ago we had a concerning incident with our dog waking and growling at our window facing the backyard around 2am. She’s never - in several years - done anything like that. It was fairly concerning, as we also have two young kids at home. In retrospect, my response was unwise and ultimately, thankfully, nothing came of it.
We live in a nice neighborhood in a desirable medium-sized town just outside San Antonio, but the situation lead me to realize that despite a thorough understanding of self defense laws in states we used to live in (AZ, WA), I really don’t KNOW the finer details of legality in Texas. Obviously I can take a closer look at the law (I have skimmed it since moving here) but I’d feel much more comfortable taking a class through a respected and reputable organization, if possible. I do have a bit of a background in LE and have taken college courses on criminal and use of force law in the past, so I’d appreciate as thorough a class on Texas-specific use of force justification as possible.
I know that’s a very long-winded way to say, “yo, any good law/training classes pertinent to Texas?” Thanks for bearing with me.
