Are there any British lend lease Garands @ the museum, Tark?
None on display. We might have had one stored in the basement, along with 1300 other guns not on display but they are all gone now. The Army removed them some three years ago. Said they weren't doing anybody any good locked in the basement. So the Army shipped them off to Anniston Alabama and stuck them in a Bunker! Go figure

We even had a Mk 108 30mm cannon from a Messerschmidt 109G ! I never got to see it. THAT was a fearsome weapon. It fired at 600 rounds per minute, was electrically primed and blow back in operation. Yes, you read that right. Its biggest drawback was its low velocity, only around 1700 FPS.

Close enough! There was nothing in the thread title saying it was limited to guns only (even if we are in a General Gun Discussions forum)! And it is kind of shaped like a gun, if you look at it a certain way...

Thanks, Tark. Shame the Army in its infinite wisdom removed those weapons from, I'm sure, a controlled atmosphere to a dank bunker, never to see the light of day again.

Here's an interesting article on the lend leased Garands from The American Rifleman a few years ago.

Thanks for the link hps1 ! I have most of Duff's books and I hope to meet him some day. He was at the Arsenal Museum a few years back where he was allowed to disassemble and examine #2. Every now and again a lend-lease M-1 will go up for auction at the Rock Island Auction Company. They go for a pretty penny.

As for the 1300 guns the army took, I am guessing a lot of them will go to the Army's new national museum at Ft. Belvoir Virginia. At least they will be on display where the public can enjoy them.I suppose the Army did the right thing.

But I'll still never forgive them for absconding with that Mk 108......

Another 10/22. Only the receiver and the trued and head spaced bolt is left and I made a rear hold down for the receiver. Barrel is a .920 20" Green Mountain and it has a Kidd trigger. The stock is made from grass and the wood I used for the fore end tip, pistol grip cap, and butt plate are made from some of the most useless wood around but it does have some nice looking grain in it. This is in the rifle's bench rest mode. It also three other stocks. Scope is a Mueller 8.5x25.

I added a cross section of mesquite limb and inlaid my initial into it using stainless wire. Just a tiny bit of vanity.

I need to credit my wife's older sister for the handmade quilt I used for a background.
