AR-10 is ready for the range.

The added weight is not to big a deal if it's balanced good. Looks good tho, I've always liked camo paint jobs. Still on the fence building one tho.

That was the very thing I said when I first went hunting with an AR10. “This thing is a heavy pig”.

I bought a Greatlakes .350 Legend in a AR platform, I love it!!! I got a ATN digital scope for it also. Cant wait to use it on some ole nasty hogs this season!!!

I take my AR-10 hunting when I'm going to be sitting in a blind. No fun walking/stalking with the 20" bull barrel beast.

Will have to actually sling it and take it out in the woods to see how it actually feels in the woods to see if it will be just too heavy. Most of our hunting is done with the rifle in hand and walking slowly through brush and on timberlines, so a heavy rifle will get old, fast.

Great camo job!

After carrying rifles like the SR25 and M24 fully kitted with suppressors, night vision, etc. in afg. through those mountains in the dark (along with another 100 lbs of lightweight gear) a 10 pound rifle and a light day pack isn't a big deal to me.

I know what you mean about the weight. It's funny how that happens with the AR platform. I built a 14.5" in 5.56 a few years ago for the intended purpose of being a woods gun. M4 profile barrel, full length aluminum tube, Levang steel comp on the end, scope plus mount and a MagPul UBR to balance it out. Man, does it shoot. But, pffft. Balanced or not, 10lbs is still 10lbs. After two trips, I started grabbing my .357 lever gun to go hiking with. LOL

Looks good. I also had the bug for an AR-10 until I handled one in a gun shop one day. Heavy Pig describes it perfectly. For me it wasn't balanced very well, really didn't like it so I forgot it.

Man I'm thinking about picking one up. Seems 06 and 308 where available locally during this panic.

It may be a heavy pig, but hey, it's not really the best choice for a hunting gun anyway, so comparing it to an M77 bolt gun... apples/oranges. Let's face it, it's got the same design as the AR, only bigger... so it's role would be better suited to take advantage of it's capability to accept 20 round magazines, and provide, a high volume of fast, accurate fire.

A combat rifle.

But you could hunt with it, if you didn't mind humping a couple extra pounds.

Great job on your AR10 ! After you get it broken in and tuned to work 100% , which is where the rubber meets the road, I am sure you will enjoy and come to trust it for needs be.
I tried to make my 18" Areo build light using a Criterion Lt Wt barrel and the selecting the other goodies but not dropping down to hyper light synthetics ect. as the lower was to be used for a 6.5 Creed heavy 22" criterion upper also with a high power optic for real long range fun. I got the .308 18" upper down to a total just under 9 pound unloaded mag ,un slung and no bipod empty mag and scoped weight weight which is not far off from yours as a full magazine adds a pound , at least depending (I like 25 round Magazines ) . Notice the picture of the guy shooting it is my son , SHTF I prefer to carry a 5.5 pound , short , 5.56 "necktie" .

I'd like to lighten up my 308 some it has 18" heavy fluted barrel and yes it's a pig.
I have a 450 bushmaster that's very light and makes good stalking gun.
