Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

Nah, Rattle snake! I hope...

Snake is good and gator too. It’s the stuff with fur that doesn’t always agree with the wine...;)
Feathers are almost unilaterally delicious as well.

None of the ones I’ve seen are big enough to cook.:( , and I don’t plan on letting them get that way...

Yesterday, Mrs. Johnson and I agreed to go fishing today.
I carried my Virginian Dragoon.
We went into the B-DUB, so I figured one should be prepared for bear.
We had a frost-less spring (which made me excited for a good berry crop), but the drought wiped out the berries. :(
Did not catch many but managed to bring home a meal of walleyes. :)

Walleyes :) jealous :D
Beautiful country! Thanks for sharing!!

I spent time today with my wife doing one of those tasks that should not have to be done. Picking up roadside trash. I wish people had more respect for the environment.

I did enjoy watching the butterflies gathering nectar from the wild flowers.

I also found a cool mushroom.

I carried my Bond Arms 45/410

I had the derringer loaded with 2 1/2" #7s
I think it would work on a not nice snake.
As far as 2 legged snakes, I guess aim for the face and hope for the best.

Today I was out at the cabin and chose to carry my 450 Bushmaster.
Not far, out to the rail grade and back. But carried none the less!;)

Good thing I did too. I came across this monster and was nearly eaten... DACEC64C-EF17-4C0C-AA93-AA2EEF98447F.jpeg
A Common Garter snake. More drown than green out in the turnips.
Thankfully, he let me pass!

The first five, and the rest. Shot at one hundred yards, offhand.

I notice my mount is not holding the scope well after the last hundred twenty some rounds, despite a drop of loc-tite. I put only a slight turn on the screws they seemed to have held this outing.
My sister’s husband likes to fiddle with everything. I have no idea how, but a case was stuck last time and he attempted to “Forward Assist” two of them. Thankfully the case didn’t come out because I saw him put the longer of the setback two back in the mag.:what::eek:
I gave a quick brief on straight walls and bullet seating depth. With a vacant look returned...;)

Actually glad this one did let me pass when I saw were my foot step was in relation to his thinking spot!

I had a new fondness for my pinky toe!:D

He let me go, so after a quick pic (look at that smile!), I did the same.

Brushed up on my Point Shooting, because these Goldens are not quite as accurate as the non bulk packed cartridges.

Fun day!:)

Went out scouting for elk today and was successful. Found an area they were thick in. Took my girlfriend's dad out with me in the UTV and then a short couple of mile hike. Nearly 80 degrees in Idaho in the last week of September is rare. But it was a beautiful day.

Lots of wolves and bears in this area, but just brought my P365 with a 12-round magazine and some 124-grain XTPs. It's bear season, so the bears are running scared.

Elderberry brush violated by a bull elk...

There is a cow elk in this pic. Standing broadside at about 650 yards. My brother would take the shot with his 6.5 PRC. Seems crazy to me.

I've had a Gen III Glock 20 for about fifteen years now. It has been my shadow, my constant companion, in city and woods. It rides strong side OWB in a Bianchi leather stoked with 200 gr Underwood XTPs. I handload 200 gr FMJ for practice and occasionally carry them in woods when I know I am in active grizzly country. I consider the Glock 20 10mm Auto to be among the finest trail/woods guns ever made and never go into the woods without mine.

The rifle I am fond of right now is admittedly not a traditional woods rifle. The 20 inch Aero Precision M5 .308 Win is longer and heavier than most think of when they think of woods guns. Call me a glutton for punishment, but for whatever reason, I have become enamoured with dragging this thing to the top of mountains, and am hoping to bag something with it this hunting season.

Thaw last pic was taken while packing a Milwaukee M18 Impact driver. Not easy to conceal, but I feel comfortable carrying it.:D
