It rarely gets mentioned these days it seems. Show your Long Tom turkey shoot shotguns! Maybe it was one your Dad or GrandDad used to win one or more turkeys. I know modern shotguns with modern shot cup ammo tightens the spread. It was not always the case. I used to see old guys come out with long barreled shotguns with full chokes to brag about winning turkeys every year. I just don't see those much anymore. It would be nice of you to pull those out and share a pic and description here :)

AE0B68BE-62E5-40BE-9FDA-6D4E37F7DBA7.jpeg Back in the late 70s, dad used to go to turkey shoots, seemed the same people won a lot. They would take a full choke barrel and neck it down even more somehow. That being said, I won one at a shoot around the same time frame. Shooting closest to the x with my grandfathers old single shot 12 gauge. Kicks like a mule. 3rd one down in pic. Hangs in my basement, I last shot it probably 5 years or so ago. And just a couple of times.

Here are a couple of mine:

The 1897 has won me several turkeys in the past at the local shoot. The Stevens hasn't ever been to any shoots, but I've shot a lot of critters with it a long way away. It's a very accurate gun, too and I need to try to remember to take it to a shoot this fall.

I don't have photos, but back when I was a boy we had a friend who had one of those old Marlin bolt-action goose guns with the three foot long barrel. To say it was not pleasant to shoot would be putting it mildly, but everyone who shot it would win a turkey. They finally banned that gun so that others would have a chance.

It's old but I still use it on turkey shoots, not turkey hunting but turkey shoot competitions.
That's distance shooting of shotguns for accuracy.(AKA Beef shoot or Spotshoot)
It's an old Mossberg 500 W/large scope & a hand made choke.

Some say it's just luck but do you think luck can consistently put this good of a pattern on a target from 50yd (150') away. This was only 2nd place.

I know the card shooters used to prize Winchester Model 37s. Simple, sturdy, and given a tight choke, were competitive with anything.

I took my 34" Full trap gun to a turkey shoot one time and did well.
