Trying to remove the rear sight of my Mauser. There is a small pin I'm trying to remove does anyone know what size punch I need? I don't know anything about Mausers this is my first time working on this type of rifle. Does this pin actually have to be removed? I seen some videos where people just push down on the site and pull it out however mine doesn't look like I can do that, it's different

Not sure of the exact method you should use because not all old Mausers are exactly alike. This reminded me of putting on an S+K no gunsmithing mount for a scout scope on a K-98 Mauser about 15 years ago. Checked my log book and I still had a small piece on rear sight & rear sight base removal on Mausers. It was cut out of the Q & A section in an old issue of "American Rifleman" magazine. Took a pic of it which didn't come out perfect but perhaps it would help. That's about the best I can do. I'm no gunsmith, but I'm not "Bubba", either. I even took that scout scope & mount off my K-98 a few years ago, put the rear sight back on and there's no evidence that the gun ever had a scope on it. IMG_6759.JPG .. I never removed the rear sight base, just the leaf portion. The article explains using a propane torch to remove the base band. Not sure how much of that rear sight you plan on removing. Good luck with it. Let us know how it goes.

Some have a small pin to drive out first, others have tiny screws on each end -- lots of variations.

Once freed, this video supplements the written instructions from 22250:

There's some very good stuff on the rear sight leaf at around the 54 minute mark in this video:

I you intend to remove the entire rear sight base as well, the ring is soldered around the barrel. Remove the rear set screw, then you'll need a vice to hold the action, torch to melt the soldier and a soft mallet to drive the ring toward the muzzle once the soldier has become fluid.

Just plan on removing the sight "ladder" if that's what it is called. Got it off today now need to find a replacement that will work. Thanks for the help.
