Does anyone know if anti-concealed carry signs are posted at the Texas Renaissance Festival? I'm planning on going and want to know if they prevent permit holders from carrying.

Thanks,
James

I was there and I don't remember seeing any except a couple of the beer serving places had 51% signs. I was not carrying, but i had a shotgun in the truck, a very sharp sword I know how to use on my hip and three knives in various places on my body, and my ex-fiancee had a dagger nobody but me could find. :)

This is, aside from the shirt, what I was wearing the same day (Had a blue shirt that day) on a later occasion with the new shirt.

And here's my warfighting gear at Combined Realms War VII about two months ago.

The one down in Waxahachie is posted with 30-06 signs, unfortunately.

Kinda ridiculous, considering all the sharp steel & bludgeoning weapons as "props."

Bring your sword, leave your 1911 at home.

Yeah, with a sharp steel 32" blade I know how to use and 3 knives, I didn't exactly feel unarmed either. And the fact that 85% of the people there DON'T know how to use their weapons except as props is nice for me. :)

Don't know about Texas.

However, in MD you'll never get a permit to carry and there are tons of signs even banning custume weapons. (Not that I was going to get dressed up)

Makes the sheeple happy I guess (d*mn socialist MD:cuss: )

MrMurphy:

I think I have the same sword on my wall. Firestar, right?

For better or worse, mine is for show. i prefer the distance that accompanies a firearm.

Starfire. Except mine is sharp. :)

At least it was... needs touching up.

Jacobus Rex, I'll be there this year, wearing pretty much the same thing (one or the other of the stuff in the pics) with some friends.

While I too prefer firearms, I'm also a swordfighter and medieval weapons type, so I'm comfortable with the short range stuff. Give me a recurve bow and I can really ruin your day.

If you can spot the G30 in the pic of me on the horse, you're VERY good.

It is illegal to carry in anyplace that makes above 51% of its money from alcohol.

From alcohol that is sold for on-site consumption. Liquor stores are fine but not bars.

My daughter and I have attended two festivals, one in PRNJ and the other in PA. In PRNJ, the LEO and sheeple get upset at sharp weapons even in costume. Where can I get high quality dull :( dagger for my daughter, a maiden and weapontry for myself. Also where can I find out about period dress.

Now that it has started again for this year, how about 30.06 signs? Did anyone see any this year? I'm still planning on going but want to know the carry situation. They used to have the bogus "no guns" signs at the entrance. I'm hoping they have not figured out they are useless.

The Ren Fest in Waxahatchie had legal-beagle 30.06 signs.

I think you already established that. We're talking about the Texas Renaissance Festival, not the Scarborough Fair.

Nice sword - what's that dead thing on your head? Sorry. I didn't see any signs at Scarborough Faire in Texas last time I went, but that was ten years ago - they may have even changed the name by now. What a blast, though! Couldn' afford the cheapest sword there, so got a short sword from a local guy for $125, spring steel. It went bye bye a few years back...:(

MrMurphy,

Are those the tails of a "peace knot" in the first picture?

I've been reading more and more lately about Western M.A., specifically the sword (just finished Hutton's "The Sword and the Centuries). Would you mind PM-ing me that list of suppliers also? I've found a couple online through other sites but am not really qualified to judge quality.

Thanks

Yeah, it's a rawhide bootlace (works well, looks period) however, it collects moisture and makes the sword rust (use a chain!).

The dead thing on my head is a "muffin cap" which many people of the time wore to keep their head warm or look good. A predecessor of the beret and various similar hats.

I think you misspelled "silly". :D
