Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

Another pleasant overcast day. Perfect for hiking this scenic trail.

The small lake at the top was full.

Though we were sharing the scenery with others.
View attachment 1156220

Awesome rock formations in this area.
View attachment 1156221

On the way back down we stopped at a popular feature to take advantage of the fact that no one else was there.

View attachment 1156223

And snapped a quick pic looking back the other way from halfway up.
View attachment 1156224

The 1,200' descent was easier than the other way, and no less scenic.
View attachment 1156225

And I had the opportunity to get off the trail far enough for a discrete gun pic.

Beautiful!!!! Looks like a great trip!
I get the difficulty of getting the discrete gun picture. I will always pick sharing a trail versus not being able to hike.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Daniel's Pass Trail to Sweetwater Cañon
20230611_143227.jpg

Started at the red dot.

Trailhead

Then I hiked up to Daniel's Pass (Gold Dot)
20230611_144411.jpg

I went to the right on the Sweetwater Cañon trail to the yellow dot (BTW the map in my first photo is on that sign)
20230611_100202.jpg

From the yellow dot intersection of Sweetwater Cañon and Middle Sweetwater Trail(The lady on the left was happy to point out the trail sign)

From there I went East to The Green Settlement Trail.
20230611_101431.jpg
First light Gold Dot.

Green Settlement was a hunting camp (maybe?) in the 50s(?) It's not actually on the map. its covered by the rules.

Video

And the obligatory gun photo
20230611_104812.jpg
Glock 26, Benchmade Griptilian

Then I turned around and went back to the sign (the lady was gone).

From there I went SW to the Turquoise dot.

I took this sitting on that log

FWIW Somebody broke my nose with a baseball bat when I was a kid that's why I'm breathing like that in the video.

I've visited a spot I used to spend quite a bit of time at 20+ years ago. It's at about 10,000 feet so summer comes late and doesn't stay long.
IMG_20230616_121142741.jpg

I think I missed the peak wildflowers and runoff but at the same time, not everything has leafed out yet.

There's a nice little reservoir up there. I thought I might do some fishing while I was there but the storm clouds were moving in.

I carried my Taurus 627. I've used that rig quite a bit and have found it very comfortable while walking and moving around a lot.

That's a nice rig you have in there.

Thanks, It's sort of a Frankenrig. That's a Galco chest rig with a speed strip pouch I picked up somewhere, and scraps of leather I had left over from another project. Ideally the leather should be thicker, I just wanted to see if I could do it. That 627 holds seven rounds so a lot of accessories available don't quite "come out even" when it comes to carrying spare ammunition.

I finally found the time and desire to get a half decent zero on my EOTech. Afterwards, I took the Zastava for a walk with my new EDC pack.

IMG_20230617_145851178_HDR.jpg

After four miles I can tell you the pack is very comfortable, and much preferred to my old 5.11 EDC pack. The AK? Well it carries better without an optic and rail, but even then it's still not as well balanced and easy to carry as the Ruger GSR. If I end up toting it for miles again, I'll just put the optic in my pack and rely on the irons.

El Nino is definitely keeping things lush and green up on the Colorado Rockies.

IMG_20230617_154345539_HDR.jpg

The "path" back (there is no path at all) goes off to the left and wraps around the line between the dead and living trees. Then on over the hill. This is one of my favorite "local" spots, probably because it's hard enough to get to that I never see sign that anyone's been here.

Turquoise Dot turning north into Jones Park. Jones Park is 1500 acres, it's huge. ( This is actually looking East back down the canyon)

20230618_120026.jpg

Yellow Dot. The trail to Kineo is to the right.

20230618_123500.jpg

This is the black dot. Kineo is 9,475 ft. So the actual Summit isn't above the tree line.

This is the West End with my hat and my Glock and my Buklite 422.
20230618_130232.jpg

Looking NW to Pikes Peak and Bear Creek Cañon. It doesn't show in the picture but because I knew what to look for I could actually see Loud's cabin from where I was standing there.

This is the East End

Yes
32% UAN solution
32% is the maximum solution in h20 before it begins to settle out.(basically)
https://simplotgrowersolutions.com/products/uan-32

The method of application is with our Hagie (high boy) sprayer.
Special drop tubes down from the spray booms hold a pointed foliage separating boot that steers between the rows with electronic 'feelers'.
The spray pump operates at low pressure to dribble the liquid N through "Y-drop" tubes right beside the row and directly above the root system of corn rows.
20230624_120356.jpg
The solution is going through the electronic flow meter and we know exactly how much N we are applying. The application is also being mapped by GPS for later reference.
We are getting better yields with less N by using a three or even four timely applications of N. This pass is just as the rapid growth stage is beginning.

Went to Devils Lake State Park today.
I carried my 442 and Kershaw. View attachment 1158982
Not much water in the creeks and runoff ditches. We walked a little more than we should have because of the smoke haze from the fires in Canada.

We hiked the East Bluff Woods Trail to stay out of the sun.

Beautiful scenery. Been through the area on I-90 more times than I can remember traveling from home to work Northwest of Minneapolis up I-94.
Stay safe with the smoke
