I'm the least of the worries. You will have to get past this first.

Got to get past the devil dog. Other than that my .45 Baby Eagle, golf clubs, dirty underwear or whatever I can grab/throw first.

It depends on where I am in my house when it happens. My home defense weapons are all kept in condition 3, Magazine/tube loaded, chamber empty.
If I'm in the bedroom I have 2 guns ready, 1st one I dont have a pic of but it is a Mossberg Maverick 88 (same as a 500) 12 gauge, 18.5 inch barrel, loaded with buck, buck, slug, buck, slug, and 5 more on the buttstock.
Also with my shotgun is my Homebuilt AMD-63 in basic AK-47 configuration.
My AMD-63 Home defense rifle
I may put it back in original config soon.

In my main TV room is where the true arsenal is. I keep My Yugo M-59/66 with 10 rds of Surplus HP in the magazine again chamber empty. I also have some ammo on stripper clips with it.

If that failed me my M-1 garand and my bolt action rifles are also in this room but are not loaded.

If a criminal ever tries a home invasion on me, he better bring about 10 friends and alot of body bags

Pistol: Lightly modded Kimber Polymer Stainless, most of the time. Sometimes I use whatever I'm carrying that day (1911 pattern).

Longarm: My Thompson 1927. Yeah, I know, a tommygun for HD sounds crazy, but having to double-up on ear protection in an indoor range makes one rethink firing an AR indoors without earplugs. My thompson is quiet enough not to get on the neighbors nerves when used for pest control, and though I've never fired more than a few rounds outdoors without my ears, I've never got the dial tone we're all familiar with (I can hear the "ping" action cycling). That and the fact I have more rangetime with the Thompson, not to mention if I should run out of ammo, its a more effective club. Now if only I could bring myself to hang a light on it...

I have been thinking about a 20" 590 (along with a surefire 623FA) to replace the 18.5" 500 I traded in, as well as a Para P14 LDA (with a 607R) for house duty. The 590 is on down the road, the Para is a possibility this Friday.

Oh for the intimidation factor, there's also a stupid mutt. Before you dog lovers start bashing me, I have to point out I like the dog, even though she is really stupid.

I would not use anything other then a pump shotgun or standard unmodified pistol with standard loads you can buy from a gun store. no hot hand load man killer bullets. just good ole' factory hollowpoints. gun mounted flash light are also okay becuase you can justify it in court.

it is not cool and don't have the hip factor then again, the lawyer cost can ruin your life if you are ever in a justified shooting.

That's a common belief, but I recently read an article written by a trial lawyer that did a pretty good job of debunking it. It's simply not a factor in the vast majority of 'clean' shooting cases.

My choices;

Personally I'll worry about the lawyer cost after I'm still alive. Secondly I encourage you to show me any situation where an otherwise good shoot was prosecuted further due to the type of gun used (other than an illegal one).

I took a class with Lethal force institute. after you listened to what Massad Ayoob has to say about self defense shooting and the out come of some of the people. It really makes you think. you hear some serious case that range from Murder to class action law suit. and all of them are justifible shootings. case range from California to NY and place in between.

Massad Ayoob has classes and books you can read or attend, it is an eye openning experience and a very informative class. Best of all, you find out things you should do and what to say after a self defense shooting.

I keep a ghost ring 870 with surefire light and a Springfield TRP with night sight.

I think this business of not using reloads is bogus. I'm a fan of Mas Ayoob and this is his position but I don't agree with him on this single issue. If anybody can cite a SINGLE instance of where an otherwise legitimate shoot ended up costing somebody jail time because of reloads, I'd like to hear about it.

All the cases he mentioned the justifyable shooter got off scotch free, no jail time. the problem is not jail sentance although one shooter was charged with Murder and got off. the problem is the money spent to have a lawyer to defend your case so you don't spend time in jail or a lawyer to defiend you against a class action law suit from the dumb ass that got shot deservingly. the problem is you spend everything you have on the Lawyer to get out of the problem. people have lost their home or marriage because of it.

AR or a military style semi automatic rifle, souped up handload are all cases a lawyer can use to make you look like a crazy gun owning house owner wait to shoot somebody the first chance you get. i am just saying eliminate those causes so you don't face those consquence or much less of it when the shooting is all over and done.

For those that want the best to defend your home and love ones, I think a shotgun is more then enough to do the job with #4 buck and low recoil slug if need. you don't need to chase the prep out the door and take a 100 yard shot with a rifle to take him down.

Just my humble opinion, yours may vary>>>>>

remember; first the criminal trial, theeeennnnn the civil trial.;)

I don't have a dedicated HD weapon, but I have a "safe" with my three CCW handguns near the bed. Whatever I don't have on my body is the HD gun or guns.

It contains: KT P32, S&W 36, and my newly acquired Beretta 92F. There's always at least one gun, usually two there.

642 or model 10

glaser silver for the 1st two shots, then good stuff for the other 3 (or 4).

Figure/ hope 1st shot is in a hallway or staircase (all bedrooms are upstairs), don't want to go through a wall and hit someone else. After that, BG will probably be in a room (after 2 shots fired, if he ain't dead, he's under cover), may need to go through a wall to get him.

I have 4 speed loaders throughout the house.

Also, Bear. A Black Lab/ Sheppard/ Bordie Collie mix that does not like strangers and has a BEAUTIFUL set o' white teeth. These, contrasted agianst the black fur, look REAL mean.

Too bad she's afraid of her own shawdow, though!

Well I've got plenty to chose from but it seems to me if I were to awaken out of a deep sleep a revolver would be the best choice for me.

Sure the Kimber or 870 would be fine but I just am not that sure how my brain might react in that highly stressfull situation. A revolver is a no brainer.

A Ruger GP100 sits on my side and the wife gets the SW642. Wish I could get a hold of a SW696 .44spl someday to upgrade.

Of course the BG's will most likely be scared off by the dobie.

:)

I know that it is not the best gun for CCW, but you got to hand it to the P90 for reliability. I keep her loaded with hydrashocks and a +P Cor-Bon in the tube to "kick" things off.;)
