Wayne LaPierre is resigning.

Now we will see if the problem was LaPierre or if the problems run deeper. While I celebrate his resignation as positive first step, my next concern is that we are about to meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Time will tell, but it's probably time to re-join the NRA.

I suspect many of us share the feeling and have the same concern.

Time will tell, but it's probably time to re-join the NRA.
When I first read the news story this morning ("health issues?" really?) I had the same thought. Wonder if memberships will increase if many of us who left in disgust rejoin the fold?

That is good news, hopefully we will also get a revised set of bylaws too, to insure we never have a repeat of what WLP did to the organization. Here's to hoping that this marks the turning point as the NRA returns to its former strength in the defense of the 2A. Time will tell.

He is just the face of the problem, sadly. The NRA became a cash cow for the higher ups, who haven't the blzz to bow their backs for us. The obscene salaries they pay themselves could well be trimmed and go to effective legal battles.

I need to see meaningful change before they get another dime from me. The leadership deteriorated the NRA's influence to the point it's association is a detriment to political candidates. Their significant funds should have been used to produce and telecast an EFFECTIVE MEDIA blitz.

This is good news.

The NRA had great stature but gradually lost its way -- for the usual reasons relating to greed.

Now to get an honest, respected leader! The firearms industry is obviously a part of the equation, but should not be the dominant (in charge) part of the organization. The NRA standing on principle and technical expertise goes a long way for most of us.

I might even re-join.

Maybe it’s part of a plea deal?
That may be a new guess. LaPierre personally and the NRA were inextricably tied together in the lawsuit in NY. Maybe if he goes, AG James' lawsuit has the air taken out of it... would be interesting to see if he gets a "golden parachute" to leave the NRA... Items beyond my ken but looking hopefully forward to a revitalized NRA with sound leadership.

Let's hope this is a step in the right direction. I suspect a lot of WLP loyalists remain in place but that does not make them all bad people. I don't think a purge is in order, maybe a few strategic resignations here and there.

The board needs to be trimmed down to a more manageable number, the finances need to be more transparent, and the powers of the executive vp need to be pared down so this cannot happen again.

I wondered why I, a benefactor member for many years, was recently getting even more of the "special offer", "a gift for you" and other attempts to shrink my fixed income. Obvious: He's getting a golden parachute.
Hopefully, there is a rational replacement in the wings.

Buh bye
