Revolver pocket carry

Every time we have a revolver pocket carry thread, I get to wondering...

Having had an occasion or two to need fast acquisition and presentation of a handgun, I just can't warm up to the concept as anything but a last-ditch resort.

Maybe I just wear tighter pants than a lot of the guys here. That's gotta be it.

P.S. - I do love me some fedoras, though.

It works for me because I walk around often. I can have my gun in hand in my pocket walking though parking lots or anywhere I feel the need. I buy my pants accordingly. I usually have a second gun in or on my waist. On a day that may require a jacket or sweatshirt, I can move either gun to that pocket if I want. I don’t have a body that can wear tight clothes. I would look like 200lbs. Of xxxx in a 100lbs bag.

When I pocket carry, it is I typically a S&W Model 342Ti or a Ruger LCP Custom in a DeSantis Nemesis. Pocket carry for me is when I'm too lazy to wear something with a belt (ie, I'm going to the local stop 'n rob to pick up a gallon of milk and I'm wearing gym shorts) or when I'm wearing a pair of dress slacks and a tucked in shirt at a speaking event.

I've been battling a nasty cold for the past two weeks, so laziness as won out!

I generally favor the lighter models (642's, M&P 340's or a nifty 37DAO), although my older 649 Bodyguard is still a very comfortable and well-worn option, if just a bit heavier in the pockets.

I really like my Model 649, especially in the cooler months, for pocket carry. As you say it makes for a decent choice; albeit a bit weightier, but I don't mind it very much these days. And for those times I do want something lighter in weight I have a Model 638 for that task at hand too!

Great photos Fastbolt!

I used to belong to a forum where hats and snub revolvers were the theme, also I also have some Western hats to go along with the fedoras. ;) I save the ball caps for the range or sometimes at my cigar club, since most of my ball cap collection came from gun companies from armorer classes, or cigar and adult beverage companies.

Pocket carry on duty with a coat gets this 342PD. It's the lightest center fire J frame I can find at 10.9 ounces.
Summer time this 351C can found in shorts pockets at the same weight but a few more shots.

I thought this old bit of pocket-holster gear might interest a few of you. The old Pachmayr Tac Holster (which also served as the grip). I'd forgotten I owned it until it turned up when I was reorganizing some old stuff. I very briefly tried it many years ago, when I used to carry my 649 in the outside cargo pocket of a Hollofil II insulated vest (until it literally wore out and my wife refused to keep it alive with patches).

Installed on my old 649 for some pics, to show how it works:

mitigated to some extent by the fact you can stand there with your hand on the firearm, with no one the wiser.

Maybe.

I'm gonna collector. Do you got a price on it though?
Dunno. I've seen them go for $20 on auction bids, but other bids were sealed. I even saw a group of 3 units, apparently in new packaging, sold as a lot sale, but the price wasn't listed since the sale was closed. They're probably still floating around out there. I can't even remember what I paid for it as a young cop. Probably less than $20, I'd think. If you're serious, use my [email protected] email and I'll think about it. The cost of Priority Mail nowadays is a bit expensive, but standard Parcel (or whatever it's called now) is still fairly reasonable.

I started having to make sure any new pants or slacks I bought would accommodate a snub in a thin pocket holster (UM #3).

I had some older jeans with front pockets that were too short and tight to accept one of my J's, so I used that as an excuse to pick up a couple LCP's. It had been about 25 years since I'd been willing to carry a .380ACP, but the ultra small size and reliability of the LCP's attracted me. (Second place was a S&W Bodyguard 380, but second place is first loser. ;) ) As those pants are slowly being phased out, I make sure new ones replacing them with hold a J-frame.

The LCP's are still handy, but there are times I simply desire a bit more bullet weight, even at the expense of 1 round of cylinder/mag capacity ... or I simply feel 'revolver-ish'. ;) Having been a longtime DA revolver user/shooter, it's a very comfortable feeling to shoot one, and feels like putting on a well-worn hat or pair of gloves.
