My H&R handi rifle with 444 marlin, 223 rem, and 35 rem, and 45 smokeless muzzleloader barrels. Maybe would seek out a 30-06 barrel to go with the set too.
Because of my appreciation of the 22LR I would keep my 77-22. It ain’t as accurate or as pretty as my Cooper but I’m sure the Ruger is better supported.
It’d be a mix of my two favorites I have now. A Kimber Montana in 7mm-08 with a 3-9x40 Trijicon Accupoint would be the “if I could only have one” I currently have a Ruger Hawkeye standard in 7mm-08 and a Kimber Hunter in .243.
One rifle to cover everything, which for me would include:
Hunting
Target shooting
Plinking
Defense
I think I would have to go with something milsurp or AR platform chambered in a common / cheap / established cartridge. Maybe an AR-15 in 5.56 or an AR-10 in .308 Win. In this hypothetical, do I get to keep my reloading stuff?
If it were just one rifle for hunting only, I'd go with a bolt-action platform in 30-06 or a 300 mag variant.
These one rifle questions are cruel! But, considering all I know over many years, and what I already have, it'd probably be my Tikka 30-06, but only by a nose over my Mod 64 30-30!
But if I didn't have a rifle, and knowing what I know now, and WT about all I'm really gonna hunt in my old age?
I'd probably go with a 7mm-08, that Mod 7 already shown be nice! But by far a wood&blue man. A new Mod 70 FW be nice but I'd consider others?
If only one it would have to be my Savage/Valmet 2400 with a 308 barrel hanging around under a 12ga barrel. Ample ammo supplies and ability to take anything in N America make it my obvious choice. (BTW, the scope isn't touching the rib)
