Well, I have 6 or more other builds ahead of it (flintlock, 2 wheellocks and some matchlocks, all to be left-handed to boot!) ahead of it, so this will take some time, but here she is!

Well, at least what it will look like when built, but I just got a bunch of parts and a rough cut blank of wood. My plans are to do the build and take pictures all along the build process, but I won't be posting them as I go, I'll wait until it's done or just about done. Then I will post a series for the:
  • Lock build
  • Stock build
  • 7-barrel set build
Woo hoo! Start your engines ... huzzah!

You do know those barrels are "sequenced" don't you. I've seen a drawing of the breech,,,,,,once,,,,,,somewhere.😕

I do have the plans and schematics, a few versions actually. The lock only fires off the center barrel via the breech tang/trunion. The center barrel then had touch holes feeding each outer barrel, so it actually ignites all 6 other barrrels at once.

… pity your shoulder.😁
Like the early 1700s English hand mortar, they were more likely fired from the hip.

The Naval service load was only 40-grains per barrel, but of 50-cal smoothbore. Whenever done, I will ONLY use 20-grains, to fire it, shootin’ it kind of like a blunderbuss, although maybe I’ll try a full load, like Jesse Merlot (The Rifle Shoppe) and Garry James ;Guns&Ammo) have done … at least once anyways, LOL!

Lloyd Admiral Nelson actually had them removed from his ships in 180x, as the muzzle blast would set the sails on fire! They would fire them from the crows nests, way high up on the masts of the ships, to rake the decks of the opposing ship they pulled up next to, aiming for Officers of course, but it shot a tighter pattern than either a shotgun or blunderbuss, especially from afar.

Well, with 240-grains of powder ... going off at once ...

A busted shoulder might be be the better alternative to getting chewed up and eaten. One could put the butt up against a tree, but that would break the stock, which would be worth it. "One shot, re-stock". !!! But again...packing that thing around would become tiring. :) Would have to hire a couple of Sherpas.

As a double rifle shooter I want to know your procedure for regulating all seven barrels to shoot into three inches at fifty yards.

Recoil is not that bad on these. It is shooting about 1250 grains of lead with about 280 grains of powder. My standard 4 bore load is 1700 grains of lead with a 450 grain powder charge. 4 bore has a lot more recoil and it is still entirely manageable. I have never gotten a bruised shoulder from it.
