Proper Firing Pin Protrusion?

What is the proper amount of firing pin protrusion for a 10/22?

Does the amount of firing pin protrusion differ from firearm to firearm?

Is the amount of firing pin protrusion the same or different for rim fire, center fire, and shot shells?

With rimfire you want to have the length short enough so dry fire does not damage the breach face. Once damaged you will have FTF problems. Some guns are made so you can some not. Center fire, set to what the mfg suggest.

Yup. If the info I've found is accurate, the maximum firing pin protrusion on the Ruger 10/22 is set back .005 or so from the bolt face which is why its safe to dry fire even though its a 10/22.

What I haven't been able to find is the factory or recommended spec for firing pin protrusion on a Ruger 10/22. Over on rimfirecentral .025 to .035 was suggested by someone but that thread is no longer active and I'm not sure if that was what Ruger recommended, how they come from the factory, or what he found worked best.

I found one thread, 4 years old and dead, that claimed the protrusion is dependent on the size of the primer not the platform.
And I quote "05-.055" for srp, .059-.062" for lrp, and quality made shotguns the same as lrp"
I assume srp stands for small rifle primers and lrp for large rifle primers.
