.38 Spl is quickly becoming a favorite

Not the most beautiful or historic examples, but I've just pulled the trigger on two of these:

(.357, 4" barrel, nickel)

The only reason for .357 is that these are not +P rated in the .38 spcl. form.

In the light of my discard ammo thread, went up to .357 - for that extra +P margin :)

They will mostly see .38 spcl at the range.
I have actually thought of getting one of those just for "grins and giggles" but I know I've got so many other 38/357's that past the first trip to the range it would never be fired. I had looked at one in the used case at LGS and didn't think it was bad. Not a S&W or a Colt, but not bad.

Moon...I've left my 67-1 as I bought it...but that rear blade is dinged up a bit....looks like it'd been dropped at one time or other, but....as it stands, it throws my reloads dead center, both 148 gr WC's and 158 gr SWC's that I cast & I hate to mess with success...LOL.

I've changed out a Smith J frame rear blade a decade or so ago with no problems that I can recall....The front is ok for my use...though I do usually like a solid steel sight that can be blacked for target work...In the woods, this one works well.

The stocks are Altamont's "Roper" of solid walnut. I like them a lot...but for any loads over say 850 fps, they're tough on my middle knuckle in recoil. I've been online looking for them from Altamont but I guess they're tied up with S&W's factory contract. Best Regards, Rod
I've got a set of those Altamont Ropers myself. I got them several years ago to go on a Model 19-9 but decided I liked the factory ones better, so the AR's went into a "junk box" in the desk drawer. When I bought a 686 (another 38/357) not too long ago those ugly rubber grips had to go, so the AR's got the call from the bullpen. They've been starting ever since.

About the 686. I resisted the "L" frame 357's for years. Didn't see any need for them. I had K's and I had N's. I didn't "need" another size. Well, I finally broke down and got one and I must admit that it's everything people said they are. I go back and forth on which I like better. The 686 or my Colt Python (another 38/357). Which I like better generaly comes down to which I'm shooting/handling at the moment.

38spl is my favorite caliber. S&W Model 10s, Model 64s, Model 15-2, Ruger Speed Six/Service Six in 2, 3 & 4" see the most range time. I like the more versatile 357 also but my arthritic hands prefer 38spl/38+P. Another plus is 38spl is easy to reload. IMG_2262 (2).JPG IMG_1827 (4).JPG

i have a bunch of 38sp revolvers. here is my bedside taurus 856, before and now vastly improved with new hogue grips and a bicycle tire overlay to cover the exposed backstrap. a real soft shooter, it’s loaded with 148gr wadcutters and 130gr fmj ball is on tap in speedloaders.

and we aren’t the only ones who love a good 38sp revolver. here is the entrance to the headquarters of the indonesian navy’s military police corps.

I have revolvers in calibers from 22lr to 44 magnum and a lot in between.

I'm comfortable with revolvers for SD in various calibers: 32 magnum, 9mm, 44 special, 45acp, etc.

But I keep coming back to 38 special. It puts a nice hole in things, isn't too weak or too blasty, fits in a convenient package, etc.

Out of many handguns, I keep a 38 special next to me at night.

I've gotten fond of the 3" barrels lately. :)

.38 Special is definitely a favorite of mine, as well, right alongside .22LR for revolver use.

I’m delighted both that Georgia Arms has recently reopened their facility and that I’m seeing their 110-grain +P JHP available online once more - it’s my favorite .38 Special carry-load. My N-frame .357s are almost always loaded with this round for carry.

Lots of cool 38s being shown here. Thanks everyone for sharing. I don't currently own a 38, but I've been wanting one. I make do with my wife 686 in 357, but it sees more 38's than anything.

My buddy just bought a Taylor's Uberti SAA clone in 38 Special. It's a smaller one, similar to a Single Six in size. Very trim little gun.

No SAA clone! get a Old School Colt or Smith!

I'm almost at the own less load and shoot more stage but a 38-44 would trip my trigger. Does anyone have a good picture of one.

Pics or it's imaginary. :)

I have lots of handguns, but my HD handgun and preferred CC handguns are 38's.

They are finally here, not imaginary.

These are also available in .38 spl only. From what I've read they are not +P rated in 38 spl form. That pushed me to 357.

On the barrel shroud (is that even a proper term in revolver world :)) picture you can see that 357 is an add-on stamping.

I am guessing many parts are shared, I hope the requisite reinforcement did happen for the frame.
