I gave my son my Mad Dog DSU (Deep Submergence Unit) knife fifteen years ago. It went down ten years ago to 4800 Meters below sea level on a robotic arm on the Alvin . He used to go on it once in a while 10 years ago . The inlay he putr in Japanese is black buffaloe horn and means OKI in Japanese which is "Wide Ocean"in English and his handle aboard ships . They had to machine the handle where he filled it to mount on the arm. All other knives on the arm were failing to cut the kevlar Cables on his "Cork" project. This knife did not fail. I hooked Kevin McClung <Mad Dog, up with the Alvin team vis my son to create sharp tools for the arm. The blade is 02 Starett steel with industrial hard chrome and the knife was created 20+ yeas ago for the Navy DSU . They are rare, I think this one holds the depth record. :)
