I always get a chuckle at the declarations and protestations about how long people have been reloading. I’m just past 50 years and I still make mistakes. There’s folks on this forum who’ve only been at it for a handful of years but because they are adventurous spirits they’re doing things I never tried.Squibs are always user error. Doesn't matter how long you've been reloading or how many bazillions of rounds you've reloaded.
There are a lot of reasons for hang fires and only 1 of them is the primer being bad.
The bad thing about that habit is your eye gets trained to see things, even when they aren’t there. It takes a little concentration to overcome that. Give it time. You’ll get to the point where you’re looking for something NOT to be there versus looking for something TO be there.I’d like to know.. does the squib go “Pfffffff” instead of POP? Theres no question something went wrong right? The squib is the one fear that kept me from reloading for years now. I look in EVERY case 2-3 times before they get seated. Bright flashlight too!
There will definitely be a pop, primers in themselves are loud, but you will know it’s much different than a normal round.I’d like to know.. does the squib go “Pfffffff” instead of POP? Zactly! There will definitely be a pop, primers in themselves are loud, but you will know it’s much different than a normal round.
Felt recoil will be drastically different..
It’s still something to be aware of, as fast shooting can be a problem with a squib…
Do that with a revolver…….it’ll prolly lock up the cylinder…..On someone’s advice here I shot some primer only dummies to see what to expect. Very interesting.
Sorry, i used the word deception in french instead on disapointment.Thread topic: "Big deception with S&B lpp"
Where's the deception?
Me, i am still nervous after 4 years.I always get a chuckle at the declarations and protestations about how long people have been reloading. I’m just past 50 years and I still make mistakes. I suspect a reversal of hubris is in the offing.
The exact same thing happened to me. December 28th 2023 temperature was 32F and April 7th 2024 temerature was 37.5 F.I had a similar problem with genex SPP in 10mm auto with AA #9. Had stuck projectiles with a wad of yellowish half burnt powder behind the projectile. Only happens below 50 degrees F as far as I can tell.
I didn't break down all the rounds because I forgot to take pictures last time and I'm gonna get out on a cold day to get some. You know for SCIENCE!!!
Interestingly, CCI SPP seem to have no problems with that load in the cold. I mean to try out a few other primer manufacturers just out of curiosity.
Nothing to be nervous about, it's only rocket science.Me, i am still nervous after 4 years.
Pictures!Yeah so what. I got a dead brick of cci primers before but I'm not about to never buy cci primers again.
Pictures of what? Dead rounds that didn't fire? Dead primers I pulled down?Pictures!
Yeah. An entire brick?Pictures of what? Dead rounds that didn't fire? Dead primers I pulled down?
I tried to fire about 100 from different sleeves and so far 0% have fired.Yeah. An entire brick?
I agree. That sucks. I wouldn’t either.I tried to fire about 100 from different sleeves and so far 0% have fired.
I'm not going to waste my time loading and breaking down ammo.
I was surprised to say the least.I agree. That sucks. I wouldn’t either.
Guess you just kinda chuckle when folks complain about foreign primers being so much worse
At least they’re not expensive nor hard to come by.I was surprised to say the least.
I popped a few in the altor pistol reciver without the barrel and they just smoke a little.
Did you contact CCI, and if so, what was the result? They would want to know if they have a bad batch of primers.I was surprised to say the least.
