Do you decrease potential firearms purchases because of Form 4473 & FFL interaction?

With the NSA probably tracking exactly how much booze you purchase 'cause you use your grocery store "rewards" card, you probably buy most of what you own using credit cards (including firearms, accessories and ammo), and Big Brother knows you used to subscribe to Guns & Ammo magazine, were a member of the NRA... Your license plate is recorded at every stoplight camera, so Big Brother knows exactly when and where you travel, your phone gives the someone every number you've ever called/received a call from, every store and location you've ever visited, and all the travel you've done.

If you were in the military in the past 30 years, the government has your DNA. If you had a security clearance, or worked in law enforcement, got your concealed carry license, applied to be a public-school teacher, work in a childcare or adult care facility, worked in a hospital, the government has your fingerprints.

So you legally purchase a few firearms within what you consider a short period and now you're concerned about "form 4473 - FFL interaction?"

Sorry, but the 4th Amendment no longer applies in this country. We all have willingly surrendered our right to privacy, among other things. You're posting on a highly populated internet firearms forum, you're already on The List.

I'll buy 2, 3, 5 firearms in one day if they strike my fancy. Multiple firearms purchases in a month? Been there, done that. So what?

We had this term when I was in grade school back in the '60s: "Scaredy-cat."

With millions of gun owners’ use of the required forms one person is only a tiny number- a faceless digit in an ocean of data.

Relish it, enjoy your freedoms and throw any concerns, figuratively Back In Their Faces.

I don’t give a “hoot” that bureaucrats Want to intimidate us.
Don’t be their pet monkey🐒 on a psychological “tight leash” of unnecessary self-consciousness.

What I mean by this is my FFL does a limited number of transact yearly and I feel like if I do too many, it might seem odd. Plus the handgun form for the State Police too often might seem odd.

Any self-imposed limitation upon 4473/FFL Interactions by me is purely because I consider that particular experience to be a PITA. ;)

That said, over the years I have come across a few folks (some in my family) who have expressed an interest in keeping firearms purchases/acquisitions "un-papered", if legally possible.

Folks: years ago Armslist was much simpler to use and far fewer scammers joined it.

More people might have used that not only to avoid having govt records of transactions-- but the only appeal for me was the fact that there was a very Wide variety of guns offered, and I sold about fifteen, safely done in the daytime in a side parking lot of Kroger, McDonalds etc. And I sold ( via three separate deals) chunks of centerfire ammo as gun interests changed.

Actually it has the exact opposite effect on me, if I'm gonna go through the hassle of filling out forms and getting background checked I'll buy 2 or 3 if I can afford it. I usually buy in spurts, mostly in spring. I've done 3 so far this year and doing another next week. I do sometimes wonder if there's going to be a knock on the door by atf agents some day, but I'll not let fear stop me.

I only can afford to purchase a few guns a year, what irks me is the 2nd Amendment says no government infringements but they get away with it. We suck at being Americans.

Your grocery store "rewards" card wouldn't work for buying "booze" (hard liquor) here in Idaho because the liquor stores here are all state owned and operated. In fact, they're not really called "liquor stores," technically, they're "Idaho State Liquor Dispensaries," and the employees are all on PERSI - Public Employees Retirement System of Idaho. I figure it would be really easy for the NSA to tell that I bought a 5th of Revel Stoke butterscotch flavored whiskey the other night if they cared.😄

Yep. Just last week I had an experience that would have bothered me if I would have had my tinfoil hat screwed on a little too tight. About a month ago, the VA provided me with my first set of hearing aids, and last week I had a follow-up appointment with the VA Audiologist just so that she could make sure I was doing alright with my new "ears." I told her they were working great, and that I really like them.
She punched a few keys on her computer, and much to my surprise, she said, "You must like them - I see you've been wearing them 15 hours a day!"
I was flabbergasted! That VA Audiologist can tell whether or not I'm wearing my hearing aids by getting on the internet?!?! And yet I should be worried that my name, date and place of birth, and current address is on a few 4473s in some gun shops???o_O ;)

Since one posts on gun forums, if it came to forcible confiscation, you would be well known as a gun owner. Unless you lead a completely credit card free life, probably have gun related purchases or activities. Belong to an organization - think those roles are secret?

So buy what you want and hope the Scotus wakes up and truly institutes Bruen (fat chance).

I've had seven guns come to my FFL at the same time. Nothing was said. He only charged me the same fee he charged for a single gun. It's been a few years since I bought that many at once.

"Do you decrease potential firearms purchases because of Form 4473 & FFL interaction?" Nope. If I'm not on a Gov't List by now, I've done something wrong. (I kid, I kid  ). In all seriousness, nope. I've been background checked enough times that I'm not concerned about that. Most (if not all) of the guns I've bought in the last 5-10 years have gone through an FFL, but I really just don't buy that many.

You should worry more about what you post on THR or Facebook than filling out a few 4473 forms.

I worry about those that buy Lite beer with a shopping card. You should just buy real beer! Lots more flavor and only a few more calories 😀

Only one thing. If purchasing 2 handguns at the same time it can trigger an investigation of both the seller and the buyer, at least at one time that was so. It has only come up once for me. I was planning to purchase 2 at one time but when the guy at the small gun shop pointed this out, I decided it was better to pay for both but only fill out the 4473 for one and take it home that day. Came back a week later, filled out the paperwork and brought the 2nd one home.

This was a small one-man shop who I considered the owner a friend. It may, or may not have caused any issues, but I decided it was best to do it that way to avoid any possible hassles for him. It wouldn't have been illegal, but I just didn't want to do anything to raise red flags that might have triggered an audit of his shop.
I just ran into this recently. There is a form the dealer has to fill out if you transfer more than one handgun at a time within five business days. From what my dealer told me, it's incase you may be buying a bunch and selling em off illegally. Which I think is horse crap, but rules are rules. I had bought a Ruger Mark 2 and then a single six came up just before my delay on the bgc ended. Of course, I got delayed on the single six, and when I got the proceed it was 6 business days after the Mark 2 was transferred, so he didn't have to do the form. Can't remember what the name of the form is, but that's what my guy told me.
I was an expat for a few yrs, I'm all over government lists I'm sure. Won't keep me from enjoying my life and acquiring what I want for the collection

If 2 or more of the 7 were handguns, there is an extra Multiple Purchase form in your dossier.

I only recall one in mine. I saw two operationally equivalent but mechanically different guns in stock. I could not make up my mind, so I bought both with never a care.

I enlisted in Uncle Sam's Army, I've been a cop for fifteen years, I'm a registered lobbyist for a national gun rights org, I own NFA items (both Form 1 and Form 4), I've written multiple op-eds on gun rights, I've been on multiple television and radio interviews on gun rights, and I've worked for a number of FFLs over the years.

Trust me, I'm on a list somewhere.

Heck, at one point I was on the gun a week program. A FFL I worked at on my off-time when I was a cop was audited. When I worked at the shop, it was basically indentured labor. Something interesting would come in or I'd order something at cost, calculate the work hours needed to pay it off, and work said hours. The owner would give me my paycheck, I'd endorse it, and hand it right back to him.

Anyways, during the ATF audit; the agent was going through the bound book and the 4473s and kept seeing one name over and over again. Finally, the agent looks over to me and asked "hey, who is this guy? He's purchased over 30 guns in one year alone!"

I look at the agent and tell him this:

In a similar vein, I've had my picture in a national, major gun magazine. Written letters to the editor of major papers. Got some internet videos from trainer's classes. So I fill out a 4473, just did that the other day. So what. In fact, the more people who legally buy guns, the better. Think having secret guns stashed in your toilet tank are good for anything?

The government shouldn't have a say in gun sales period. 4473s, backgrounds, etc... don't stop criminals and never did. I've purchased half my collection via private sales. As an American, I should be able to freely order a firearm direct from the manufacturer and have it mailed to my house.
