One More Sixgun! Uberti El Patron .45 Colt.

Hmmm. Would you be enamored of driving a Model T car?
If I had a Model T, yes. Although there are 'restomods' out there, on vehicles newer than a T, that incorporate more modern features (power trains, 12v system, disc brakes), that are kind of the automotive equivalent of modernized SSAs.
But an original T, planetary transmission, spark advance and hand throttle would be fun.
But not for anything serious for travel, just like a SAA wouldn't be my first choice to solve a serious social problem.

231 was a very close 2nd which is good because, while I have 4-5lbs of Unique, I have 12lbs of 231!
How much of the case does 231 fill? How about Unique?
I use B'eye for most things, but that phone booth-sized .45 Colt casing seemed like a bad choice.

Caught the reply before I moved it eh?

Well, as you might expect Unique was a little better than 231 but I doubt either hit 50%.

After decades of experience with both in .44mag cases, I had/have no concerns with either of them though.

Don't have much experience with Bullseye outside of .45ACP and some .38spl but it does seem to have a following with .45C loaders so I figured I'd give it a shot.

It seems they have stopped producing Trailboss all together.

While it’s not really an ideal powder, the safety it brings by easily seeing a double charge is invaluable to me.

It also meters exceptionally well, and produces moderate, consistent loads. Why it has become scarce/nonexistent I cannot imagine. Still have a small stash of it, but when it's gone, I'll likely move to Unique. As noted, did get some positional variance with Unique.

This. If you just have to have six, the transfer bar is about as foolproof as it gets, with the Smith block a close second.
Some of us are just enamored of the idea that an old gun should work like an old gun. And sound right, too. ;)

The thing is these are new guns made to look like old guns but be safer. Besides wearing ear protection I'm half deaf anyway so clicks mean little to me as I have a hard time hearing them. As long as the looks are there I'm happy.

Different strokes, for different folks. Nothing wrong with that.
And if shooting the living heck out of it is the goal, there's a case to be made for the Ruger. :)

@gilgsn ...did you ever find any .41MAG brass?
Hi, not yet... I can't find any .32-20 here either. Good thing I still have a couple hundred new cases of .38-40 and .45 Colt, otherwise I'd be left with 357 only. On the upside, the price of primers has come down a little. It's not easy finding components in France. Black powder on the other hand is up to around $65 a pound.

As to the Uberti hammer safety, for me it isn't about three or four clicks or safety, but reliability. Increasing the parts count increases the chances of something breaking, as simple as that. The hammer safety seems to work well, with no light primer strikes. Time will tell. I will check if I can get replacement parts however, just need to save up some money.

Gil.

Entirely legitimate concern. The relative simplicity of the original design served well on our frontier. Keep a screw driver handy, they do have a habit of dismantling themselves. ;)
