Thanks,

Oh, yeah, and the CEO's name is: James Sinegal

Yet the managers in the Montgomeryville, PA store didn't say a word to the 5 to 6 teenage punks demanding money from my sister and I and swinging a lacrosse stick at us a couple months ago. They were very lucky that stick didn't hit me or my sister. One of us would likely have unloaded on them. What the heck were they doing unsupervised with a lacrosse stick in cafeteria area of a Costco anyways?

Good luck with those signs in PA Mr. Sinegal. They don't mean squat here.

"A person with criminal intent will ignore that sign. "

And so would I had I seen it, which I didn't. But hey, concealed is concealed.

This brings up another point, does anyone think that these signs are actually a good thing? It lets the corps/companies satisfy their lawyers, and yet at least in FL, all they can do is ask me to leave if I'm "made". So, I carry at Costco, so I'm happy, and the CEO's can claim due diligence in not allowing dangerous weapons on premises, so they're happy. Everyone is happy except all the idealists.

Favor

Still, I'd like to see the "policy" reversed.

So next time you go to you unfriendly neighborhood Costco, could you jot down the address and let me know if you see a posted sign (or not)?

I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks guys!

I don't think I have ever been to Costco and not been carrying. The nice thing about the PRK is we don't have to worry about those signs because everyone assumes you are defenseless.

Boycott Costco? I don't feel like it. It isn't going to change anything.

For those "Doubting Thomas" Types

A boycott WON'T do anything if no one participates, BUT if you think that letting companies know you are NOT happy with their policy doesn't get results look up OFCC and KROGER - that's a big chain (especially when one counts all the affiliated staores) OFCC took them down (okay, their policy). And Little ol' "Free Ohio" with help from other groups including OFCC took out MicroCenter's policy. Took a couple of months once we got serious, but neither of THOSE stores have "membership" cards. ;) And there's at least 80 folks on ARFCOM who have received THEIR FULL Refunds.

Mark,

Florida's laws are different than Texas (obviously), but in Texas, and apparently Ohio, it is a criminal trespass offense if you go into somewhere with the official "do not carry in here" sign. In your state, you don't have to worry about it, but in other states, we can't lawfully go in. That is the reason some of us try to get them changed.

Remember: Concealed means CONCEALED!
"A person with criminal intent will ignore that sign. " And so would I had I seen it, which I didn't. But hey, concealed is concealed.
Sure just ignore the signs and keep spending your money there. And with that attitude these corporations will never change.

I'd heard this was their policy a little while ago. While I was there this past Sunday I looked but didn't see a sign. I'll check again next time I'm by there. BTW-this was the store in Tacoma WA.

My letter
My wife and I have Costco memberships here in Phoenix. Since your CEO has decided that we can't be trusted with common self defense tools, we won't be renewing our membership this year.

Sam's Club doesn't have such a policy (their President issued a pro right to keep and bear arms letter), so we will join.

Good man, however, PLEASE ask for a refund of your membership costs. IF they (IMO, when) come to their senses and reverse this DUMB policy, you can always re-up with them. PLEASE call the 800 #, tell them you'd like a check dropped in the mail a.s.a.p. so you can go get your Sam's Club membership.

They will refund the WHOLE cost of your membership. (At least that's what their website claims ;) We need to hit `em HARD and the best place is in the POCKET.

Remember what your tag line says... ;)

My letter:

I have just been informed that Costco does not allow people with legal concealed weapons permits to carry their firearms Costco stores. As a permit holder, I see this as a direct insult. I will no longer shop at Costco.

Furthermore, I will tell all my friends not to shop there. I will also pay attention to the news, and if anyone gets mugged or assaulted in a Costco or a Costco parking lot I will contact them and advise them to sue you for failing to protect them. If you disarm your customers you must assume the responsibilty of protecting them.

Cincinnati (Tri County) is not posted - sort of. Outside the store there are no signs but at the enterance to the wine/beer section there is a sign that doesn't say don't do it but that doing so is a felony & that you will be going to jail if discovered  .

Sadly I also saw that Jungle Jim's was posted as well :( . Man has that place changed since the last time I was up that way :what: .

Greg

I haven't seen any signs of that nature at my local Costco either.

But, I gotta admit I'm not on the lookout. I'll spy for it when I go next time.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did decide to have this policy since 9/11 and all. Everyone's hopping on the security bandwagon.

I am sorry but that is a corporate wide policy sent down from our CEO.

Funny how this "corporate wide policy" only seems to be in effect in places where there is legal support behind a posting (i.e. Ohio). I have yet to see such a sign posted in the Seattle area and I go into Costo a lot.

The store here in Kansas, Overland Park is posted. I wne there just to see. I dont have a membership, nor will I.
People can say that a boycott will do no good, and with that attitude it wont. People need to stick together and do the right thing. Its not the easiest thing to do, but since when has doing the right thing been easy.

Sign up for a membership, then 'find' the policy. Then call and cancel your membership, and give the reason. Bump the stats that show that they are losing business. They will refund 100% of your membership fee.

I haven't seen any signs hare in NC. I looked at one point when I first got my CHP and didn't see any. I'll have to check again the next time I'm there. I hope I don't find any, where else will I get my "Very Berry Sundae"?? :D

Cal

I too have not seen any signs here in NC. I was just their last week. I can promise you one thing if I do see any we will be canceling our membership and I will not have a problem telling them why.
