Oh Hi Oh
After shooting a Sig P226 last week I got the Sig bug. Bought a P239 in 9mm and got a chance to shoot it today. Holly $*()! :what: . I was extremely surprised at the extreme accuracy of this gun! My first few shots went a bit astray of the bullseye since the trigger was much smoother and easier than I'm used to. Once I got the feel of the trigger I literally was able to point and shoot. After nailing some really tight groups in single action I spent the rest of the time de-cocking before each shot and practiced squeezing off the first shot in double-action.

Other impressions this early in the game:

The 239 is:
Not much smaller than my Glock 19
Is heavier than my Glock
Seems easier to shoot than the Glock (just a bit)

Now I'm wondering if I should look into a .40 and/or .357 Sig...

Be careful! I thought that I could handle my first SIG purchase, a P226.

Then along came a great deal on a P239 in 357 SIG.

Then I had to have that SIG P245.

Then I had to have that P229 with both the 357 SIG and .40 S&W barrels.

It is addictive.

That's an expensive habit you're starting there. I'm more accurate with Sigs than with any other handgun. I have the 239 in 40 and it's a dream to shoot. Same can be said for my P220.

Congratulations and welcome to the dark side. I want a P239, or possibly a P228 at some point. I haven't decided yet, having never fired either, but I keep leaning towards the P239 as it would be better suited for CCW.

.40 vs 9

Anyone able to give an idea of how much kick the 239 .40 delivers (compared to the 9mm). I posted a similar question a while ago but now that I've shot the 9mm I have a better baseline for comparison.

Thanks!

I had a P239-but had to depart with it for $ reasons. :(
Someday I hope to get another if the price is right, but I think I would pick up a P228 first.

Then I had to have that SIG P245.

grendelbane,

How do you like your P245? I've been wanting to get a .45 to carry for a while and have studied that one pretty hard. The problem is I have not been able to find anyone around that sells them.

Eventually they all will come to wield the one true sword.
I'm quoting you on that :)

I had a P239 in 9mm. Then I sold it.

So I could get one in .357.

Wonderful gun in any caliber, easily concealable and more accurate than it should be at that size. I carry it 90% of the time.

Be forewarned: .357SIG is an expensive addiction :)

I like the P245. It is a great combination of size and weight. Light enough, and small enough to carry, big enough to hang on to, and just heavy enough to handle the recoil of the .45 ACP. (Not that terrible, but I find it gets lively in the lighter guns.)

Reliable and accurate. Still, I find myself carrying my P239 more. It is smaller, and lighter still, shoots just as well, its main drawback is the lack of a .45 caliber hole in the muzzle.

I have a couple of really nice holsters for the P239, and only a mediocre one for the P245. I suspect this affects my preferences more than any actual difference between the 2 pistols.

FunYet, careful, they are addictive. I started with one, and soon had 2 more. First a P220ST, then a P245, then a P229.

Grendlebane, agree with everything on the P245. I never paid it any attention until I picked one up. The grip (which is the hardest part to conceal) is just big enough for me to get all three fingers on, yet doesn't stick out when tucked into the waistband.

Erik F, for $200 you can order a Bar Sto barrel in 9mm that would drop in to your .357 P239, letting you practice on the cheap.

I've about decided that when/if I get around to buying one I'll get the .40 version and the 9mm barrel to go with it. That is unless I happen upon a really great deal on a used 9mm.

I recently got my favorite Sig, a 220 ST. I like it so much, I'd eventually like to get another 220 ST (as a backup).

When I think of the "perfect" pistol, I always see a 9mm SiG P239.

It doesn't get much better.

I love my Sig 9mm P239. Did you get the clips with the pinky finger rest? I found them very helpful without adding any appreciable weight or size.

Yup The P239 - 9MM is a great CCW gun. I love mine, enough to say I will own one in each caliber they make. But I am on a revolver and 1911 kick right now so they will have to wait. Hummm come to think of it a P245 would be a great back up gun for 1911.......dam these SIGs are trouble, for my bank account.

Great first SIG...and like everyone else said make room in the safe.

Also if you have never been over here :SIG FORUM Its a great place just like here, just lots of SIG nuts.

Careful, now, SIGs are addictive. I first bought a 228, closely followed by a 232, then a 226 and a 239 (all 9x19 except the 232). Then a 225 snagged me and said "take me home". I foolishly sold the 232 to my BIL, thinking I really needed to consolidate on either 9 mm or .45's.

I didn't think I'd like the 239 so well, and though I know the 225 is supposed to balance a bit better, that 239 just works so well for me, I find I end up carrying it a lot. I added night sights and Hogue walnut grips - my baby. Might find her way to ROBAR after a .while. she'd look good in their silver-grey NP3.

Congrats & enjoy :D

I had a P239 in .40 S&W. If it were in 9mm, I probably would have kept it. Maybe it's just me, but the .40 seemed like the wrong caliber for that pistol. Pocket rocket was the best way to describe it. But otherwise, it was laser beam accurate and dead on reliable. I'll buy another one someday, but in 9mm.

Edited: +1 if I can get one with the DAK trigger (do P239s get those?)

Congratulations on the new Sig. I have one in .40 S&W, and couldn't be more pleased with it's performance. Very accurate.

The Force is strong with this one. avatar.jpg

Lots of great makes and models out there, but at the end of the day SIG is still Excalibur for a lot of people. :D
