I had to leave the gun show!

Went to the Phoenix gun show yesterday for the purpose of selling my Sig 230 and enjoying some beef jerky and thought I would share my experience. My Sig was in like new condition as it had been a safe queen for many years, just never really filled any particlualr niche, and I was asking $400 for it. I no sooner entered the show when someone offered $300, and I received 3 other offers of less than $400 along with trades etc. To get to the point, I did sell it for $400 to a gentleman that had a table set up selling accessories and misc. items. As I was walking around with my money I came across a NIB, per the seller, S&W alloyed frame model 39 (9mm) which did look unfired for $350. I have always admired these guns and was sooooo tempted but the money I received from the Sig was marked to go towards a new guitar that I want. Anyway, I had to beat a fast exit out of the show or I knew I would never make it home without that 39. I do have to say that I saw some very nice S&W revolvers at the show that are no longer being made along with this beautiful 39. All in all, I had a very good time, just wish I had a lot more money. ;)

Mike, Such temptations are hard to resist, especially with cash in hand.
I had a similar experience this past weekend at a Gun show. I walked in with a
Garand and a Beretta shotgun to sell, with the intent of thinning out the safe, and putting money towards my move to a new job. Took me less than an hour to sell both for what I asked. For some bizaare reason, all the other guns that I had been longing to get someday were there, and oh so reasonabley priced. I thought holy heck, how do I get out of this place? Got to the door, then ambushed by a custom holster guy- YES I did it, ordered a custom bandito holster with the over shoulder belt and and cartridge loops, for my S&W 657 for $123 shipped. Glad I got out of there cheap.
 
Reminds me of when I (foolishly) put my Citori Hunter on consignment. Well, actually I did need the cash and shot the gun rather infrequently.

Eventually it sells ... I go to collect $650 check ... but walk out with only $250! How did that happen?

Just happened there was an M27-2 under the counter that I had been searching for for so long ... what was a guy supposed to do? :rolleyes:

I regret getting rid of the Browning but, the aquisition of the M27-2 still gives me enormous pleasure so - guess I shouldn't complain - too much!
 
Ala Dan.....I can't believe you restrained from belittling him on selling a SIG!!!! :neener:
 
To Ala Dan and Spot77, I still have my Sig 229 which is a real keeper and I won't sell. ;)

To Kramer Krazy, I am getting a new Fender American Stratocaster.
 
Alas another Gun/guitar man.

Boy I know what that's like. I've found that the guitar bug can actually be much more expensive than the gun bug. I have a mint anniversary strat that plays like a dream. Right now my guitar bug is a Martin OOO-28ec and my gun bug is a N frame smith. Guitar = $2500.00 Gun = $600.00ish.

I have found that in most all instances the Guns are a better investment. Unless you happen to be Clapton I guess and can sell a strat for a little under a million dollars!

I don't know I have never lost money on a guitar .

Kramer Focus 69 in 150 out

Gibson SG Faded 475 in 700 out
Gibson SGJR 399 in 650 out
Yakahama 12 100 in 100 out plus danelectro Inuendo plus 4 track
Sold four track back for 50 plus sold Danelectro for 150.

Glad to know I ain't the only one with a Roadie Rench® in my range kit. ;)

My problem was that I'd go in a store to buy new strings and walk out with a new bass. :eek:

I solved that. I just stopped going into music stores.
 
There are two rules to owning guns.
1. Never sell your guns.
2. If you really need cash bad, see rule #1.

I am sorry fot your loss. But if you join a band and make millions forget what I said.

I agree with you, but it seems that occasionally I end up with a gun I never shoot. Since I'm always wanting another gun, I will sell the underutilized ones with the stipulation that the proceeds immediately go toward another gun.

I use to live by that rule up until a couple of years ago when I realized that I had a few guns that I really didn't care for. I didn't enjoy shooting them, they had no collector value and they simply just didn't do it for me. I still have a very nice assortment of firearms and those that I have sold were never sold at any great financial loss if any loss at all. I also never sell a gun when I need to, only when I want to. If I hadn't got my asking price, no big deal, I would just have waited for another opportunity. I'm a very patient person, I have to be, I'm a teacher. :D
 
Mike J, you're a lucky man. I've had to leave gun shows around here too since they're more like cheap knife/romance novel/winter clothing shows. It's no fun to go shopping for guns and find that 2/3 of the tables are unrelated riffraff.
 
I'm considering selling my drum set to buy a new gun......if anyone's looking for a 5 pc Tama swinstar set w/ 2 CP toms and a set of Sabian cymbels and a Ludwig deep snare and good hard wear PM me........
 
I've done pretty well on buying and selling guns. I'm sure I'm up a couple bucks overall but I KNOW I've made more money on guitars. Bet example was I bought a beautiful burgundy Kramer Stagemaster at a shop that mostly dealt with acoustic guitars. Guy had traded it in on a Guild 12 string. I paid $300 for it. I sold it for $700 a couple years later.

Or you could solve that by falling off a balcony and ending up in a turtle shell.

Glad to see you back on the forums the past few months.
