Normally I don't get too upset over sporterized "classic" firearms. But sometimes, something so terrible comes along that it shocks even me...

Under all that, that's an original Winchester 1897.

I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight.

I am going to go hug my Remington 11 and tell her that will NEVER happen to her.

I wouldn't do that even to a Norinco.

Although full marks for the original pistol grip.

To help make the pain go away, here are some cleaned up 1897's from Ned Christiansen:

The one on the far left has a neat extension fabricated up for it. The one in the middle has a forward sling mount built up that still allows for the take down. Detail picture below.

And one I had cleaned up recently as well:

(Gagging noises and retching)....

Whoever did that has some serious 'splaining to do.....

OTOH, gunsnrovers, nice cleanup on that last one.

My first thought was dear god I hope that was a Norc, then I re-read the post again. I just need to get my name out to these people to let them know to sell me the nice old guns before they do anything to them.

i must be a masochist. i can't help coming back to this pic and feeling the pain of disbelief. :(

Alright! I've looked at this thread three times thinking that I was seeing things.
Its like a train wreck. You just can't help but stare. :(

Someone needs some serious whompin' upside the head with a wet squirrel for that....

A train wreck is a work of art next to that first pic

DaveM,
i don't know the owner. i saw the gun at chris's house. all the internals are hard chromed (or whatever that guy did) as well. the owner sent it to chris to get it to work. i bet it worked before the owner did anything to it.

To be fair, the owner of the gun is not the person who did the hack job on it. Guy bought it secondhand.

Aside from all the cosmetic damage, the twit who butchered it also screwed around with the sear - so of course, the hammer doesn't stay cocked. It's probably going to need a new sear.

I'm thinking of buying it from the owner just so I can restore it...
