Identify this gun please.

Stump the stars, here? I believe it's a Saiga 7.62 X 39, Russian mfg. Can't say the model right now, but I'm sure someone will chime in.

Sounds like someone's family outside the state got her a gift, that they didn't know was a no-no.

What makes it illegal? The magazine capacity? I thought as long as it didn't have a pistol grip it was ok, then again I'm not too familiar with PRK laws.

AK action in a magazine fed rifle = a no-no in CA.
AR action in a magazine fed rifle = a no-no in CA.

Somehow the FAB-10 avoids this ban, probably by virtue of the fact that you have to take it apart to put in the next 10 rounds.

FAL action was not listed, hence the CA legal FALs.
