Then and now - - -

Before I retired at the end of the year, my everyday carry was a .45 Commander and one spare magazine. I sometimes carried smaller on the weekend.

Since 31 DEC 04, about four days a week, my pocket carry is either an S&W M37 or a Colt Agent, both loaded with R-P 158 gr LSWCHP+P. The other three days, either my old Commander or an S&W M65 3".

It's strange, though - - My wife's most common carry piece is a Colt OACP LW in a Bianchi belt slide. She is often more heavily armed than me.

Good topic, cslinger. REAL world carry - - All of us have fantascized at some point, about foiling a terrorist attack or a holdup. In the reveries, of course, we are armed with a brace of .45s with four spare mags, or a Desert Eagle with a .357 backup, or maybe our pet .41 mag with 8-3/8 inch barrel. Reality would usually be something different.

The only time I don't have my S&W 500 on me is when I'm swimming. :D
Then it's my Desert Eagle .50AE(it's lighter. Less risk of drowning.) :D
I don't have my CHL yet. :(

Ok, a question first. What is with all these expensive guns being carried in cheap junky uncle mikes iwb holsters?? You spent a small fortune on your gun, why on earth would you skimp on the holster?? I just don't get it.

Now, I carry everyday, everwhere with few exceptions. My carry has been a Colt Officers Model in a Milt Sparks VMII. Last weekend, however, my carry gun changed to a Para Tac Four in OD green, and it rides in my Milt Sparks as well. I REALLY like having 14 rounds of 45 without a reload.

Bama - welcome :)

I agree but only in part. I see no need for an expensive gun to by default mandate an expensive rig. Bottom line I think is - having a rig that suits the gun and shooter - comfort, retention, etc.

This will often mean, quality leather but I don't feel the gun's quality is necessarily being in any way compromized by a lower priced rig - if said rig does all the owner requires. This might sometimes mean even a loaded 1911 suits for someone - in a cheap ol' Kydex - it's what works, for them!

Wow never expected this response to this post.

Very true, also true is the fact that chances are it is all about having a gun, any gun. Even a lowly .22 looks mighty intimidating pointed at you. I guess I just wanted to post this thread for all the folks who ask what to buy as their first or only carry gun. My take on things is the easier it is to carry the more likely you will be to do so. The more folks who carry the more good guys who are on the street.

Thanks for the response.

As for swimming I personally like to stick to a nice Glock 21 or possibly an HK MK23 since the corrosion resistence is so good.

OH and in my fantasies about foiling terroists I am usually armed with something along the lines of a SEAL team and I am just along for the proverbial ride. As far as I am concerned the most dangerous thing I ever want to encounter is an IDPA/IPSC reactive moving cardboard target.

I am perfectly happy with those targets that don't bleed and most of all those that don't shoot back. But then again I am a wuss.

I don't carry anything on my person unless I'm in the woods. But, I frequently have something in my vehicle.

P95,

I was a gun show vendor for over 2 years and I sold guess what?? Hoslters. You would have a customer come up who just bought a $700 gun but said $15 was too much for a holster for it. Huh??? Now, I wouldn't recommend a nylon holster for everyday concealed carry for any gun, but when a nylon holster costs too much for that $700 gun, I just don't understand.

And P95, I guess my first post came out wrong, no, you don't have to have an expensive gun to have an expensive holster. Maybe I should have said, I don't know why anyone would use a cheap nylon holser to carry what may potentially save your life. Why bet on something that is built on quantity, not quality.

Thanks for letting me rant.

I usually carry what I carry at work but, I will rarely carry something else. So that makes it a Glock 19, in a strong side hip holster from Don Hume (man I just looked and does it need a polishing). It is a model H724-TB; I don't think they make them any longer; that is too bad as it is a great holster. I do have a spare one somewhere.

I carry my spare magazines in an Uncle Mike's nylon double mag pouch with snap closures. No velcro for me.

My holster and mag pouch go onto whatever belt I am wearing and I only own about three belts, I am no fashion maven.

As for a knife I carry a small Schrade folder, I guess about a 2 1/2 to 3 inch blade and; I also carry a no name folder, locking blade, one hand open that was issued to me.

Whenever I carry I try to remember to take along handcuffs, usually in my pocket. I figure if I have to shoot the guy, I may as well cuff him until the cavalry arrives.

Sometimes I carry pepper spray too. I carry that in a ridiculous leather carrier that was made for uniform wear, but issued to us for concealment. Go figure.

Sometimes but rarely, I will carry something else like a Beretta 92F in a Bianchi holster, or an Ortgies .32 in my pocket.

All the best,
Glenn B

It depends on the weather/time of year. Both dictate what I can get away with,lol...

If it is winter time 65% of the time I will get more clothing on so I can easily conceal my Glock 23 in .40 cal. in a Fobus paddle holster(chambered and ready). The remaining 35% of the time(which usually includes home) I carry a Taurus Millinium in .45 acp with ten in the mag one down the pipe of safety and ready to rock  ! If 11 rounds of .40 cal or 11 rounds of .45 won't stop a B/G at most attack distances, It would be pointless carrying :scrutiny:!

My Glock is my ,"Combat", pistol and what I prefer to carry but I can't conceal it in the summer so well. So summertime my above percentages usually get flipped around and I carry the Taurus .45, 65-70% of the time... Both are comfortable enough that I almost forget they are there sometimes(until needed :D ) and I carry one of the two just like I carry my left and right hands, everywhere :) !

Sig 225, S&W 60, Sig 230

Depending on methods of carry one of the above.
Strong side carry it's the Sigs (225 in 9mm, or 230 in .380). Fanny pack or walking the Model 60 snubbie stainless. :D
