This is a great DVD, despite having a pretty cheesy interview with John Carpenter but it's worth adding to your collection if you have any interests in classic HD shotgun at the old jailhouse.
My five year old son said it best, "This is dumb!"
But you gotta love all the evil menacing bad guys skulking around, out in the open...moving targets!
I have a lot of respect for John Carpenter, especially "The Thing" (Any movie where a man's head falls from his body and becomes an eight legged creature is way awesome...), but he must have been having a bad day when they filmed this one...
I saw it when it first came out. Have the $5.00 dvd now. It's cheezy but most of those old police shows were.
Did anyone notice that the white prisoner (murderer) is cuffed in front and the black prisoner is cuffed in back. I found that interesting.
The new one is chock full of the F-word- usually about every 3-5 words- it'd make Art's Grammaw keel over...
Good weapons though- I believe G-36C's, although I don't know much about the G-36 series. Also, a tommy gun! However, it is not really that good. Of course, the regular Hollywood screwups (endless mags, to name one) are present.
Absolutely... I also admire the upstanding female portrayal in this film. Here you'll find a babe that takes a hit and keeps on fightin' until the fight is over.
Really quite nice in balance. And let me add that this original Precinct 13 edition outdistances the latest rehash by a mile; an opinion determined in part by my 50 (not 5) years of reviewing...
Gosh, and now that you've made mention of it... I'll have to play it again!
Yeah, long story short, the new one suffers from not being good. The silenced revolvers of the original can be forgiven once you watch the new one, IMO.
I didnt really care for either one of them. I did enjoy the new one more though. I think it was because the first one had ruined any hopes of it being a decent movie, it lowered my (already low) expectations for the 2005 flick, so it was better than I thought it would be, therefore I enjoyed it a little more.
But to be fair, if I saw the '05 flick first, I'd probably like the '76 release better.
I've always thought that John Carpenter is pretty hit-and-miss, but Big Trouble in Little China is one of my all-time favorites. I'll have to watch this one.
