my quest for a new gun and new defender of my worthless butt has come closer to being narrowed. I have decided against an AR as my range has stopped allowing people to bring in their own ammo (stupid steel cored ammo.....) and I have decided against a shotgun because I used to have two benellis and am afraid I just don't have it in me to not buy an m3 super 90. So with my limited funds I am going to get a decent pistol. Now heres the problem...... sig p226, browning high power, cz75/cz85c. I would be getting it in 9mm. I used to shoot a high power and I loved it. I just recently shot the cz and it made me nostalgic of my highpower. I also shot a 226 a while back but need to do it again just to make sure it would fit right. I guess I am wondering if anyone can help me narrow out the cz against the browning. They are both just such good (and similar) guns. Then i'll decided between the winner and the p226. probably.

Hmm... just so that I get all the criteria correct, you're looking for a:

- 9mm semi-auto
- for self defense
- and a target pistol.

Lemme ask you, is this for range shooting or bullseye shooting where a really accurate pistol is required?

The guns you listed are pretty accurate, they're combat accurate. But in the right hands, you can get some fantastic groups.

As far as a target pistol however, The SIG P210 or SIG X5 come to mind.

Now, if you just want a range gun that can serve both home defense and informal range shooting, any of those guns would work great. And in that case, of the guns you've listed, my vote goes out to the SIG P226. But of course, find one with a stamped slide w. the words German or W. German across the right side of the slide.

Good day. :)

I own a P226 and my dad owns a CZ75B.

I love CZ's but based on your criteria I would go with the Sig.

15 + 1 capacity and very accurate.

Only major difference is the cost...CZ's are the most bang for your buck IMHO.

New CZ75B $425.00...New P226 $650.00ish

I'm not really looking for something to slap on a bench and get extremely accurate groups. as long as it is accurate enough that I don't feel like a loser at the range and I have the capability to reach out to 20-25 yards with reasonable shots. I heard there are now flush fitting 15rounders for the HP and CZ.....? i suppose I just have to go to the range again this weekend. darn looks like i'll have to rent more pistols. poor me. Does anyone have or know of anyone who has used the surefire light on their HP? I know its available (at a rediculous price) but have yet to see anyone using it.

go to the CDNN catalogue and look at the prices on the Sig 226. You can get a used one for (I think) $350. More than accurate enough at the range, will work as a home defense gun. I'm not sure what your budget looks like, but with a $350 SIG you might have some cash leftover for a used 870.

I've owned two CZ-75Bs, both in 9mm, and both were more accurate when shot off a bench than any of my friends' Sigs, Glocks, HKs or Berettas. Granted, the difference was sometimes very small, and varied with the ammo used, but overall the CZs shot tighter groups than anything else.

In all fairness, however, both CZs had mechanical failures that would make me reluctant to use them for self defense. On both pistols the firing pin retaining roll pin broke, jamming the firing pin and preventing the gun from firing. I've heard the CZ now uses a solid rather than a hollow pin, and if so that should solve the problem. On my second gun the trigger return spring broke. The gun could still be fired, but only if you manually moved the trigger forward between each shot. Neither pistol had more than 500 rounds through them when the failures happened.

The Sig's are all good, and the P210 is one of the most accurate 9mm's out of the box that I've ever shot, but there's nothing like the feeling of a really well-tuned Browning High Power.

[Haven't tried an X5 yet, though..]

All three are quality handguns that have proven their worth over the years. The P226 and CZ 75 B/85 C are DA/SA, and the Hi-Power is of course SA. Which would you feel more comfortable with using in a self-defense situation?

Also, if you the opportunity, go to the next local gun show, or a well stocked gun shop and see which feels better in you hand, and if you can dry-fire them, see which has the best trigger (for you).

Hi there,

I have shot a great many handguns over the years, but the Hi Power does it for me:

The CZ-75 is great, but I don't mess with success as far as my shooting skill with the Hi Power goes.

now what about carrying. Ii'm leaning towards the highpower right now (the range this weekend will decide) but when I can eventually carry it (blah blah blah single action). I'm not trying to start a new thread or get off topic on that but does anyone have experience carrying a Mk III or browings DA model? oh yeah and being new to online and magazine gun shopping, what is the CDNN cataloge
