US Rifle Caliber .30 M1
Springfield Armory

Serial No: 17345x

Here she is. Tell me what I've got. The stock is in great shape, with just a few small marks on it. The only stamp on the stock is a very faint p under the grip. The stock is walnut, except for the rear handguard which looks like some kind of hardwood.

Barrel rifling is crisp, don't know what it measures out as. barrel has S-A-6-52 stamped on the right side. Does this make it a 1952 barrel? I wrote down what's on the other side when I had it broke down if that means anything.

It's actually a lot lighter than I thought it would be. All the marks I can find say Springfield. park is wore some, but I like it.

it had a lot more cosmoline than I would have thought. A LOT.

A Riflemens rifle for sure!!! just added a M1 to the fold also damn its nice .

I'm looking at that serial#... my SA SG Dane's receiver (2.3million range) dates to December of 1943... your's is much earlier. While mine's barrel is SA 1-51 (January 1951), your's is in fact June 1952... a year and a half newer manufacture than mine. Is your's a CMP deal? If so, what grade? If the barrel looks good, it oughta be good. Have you shot it yet?

Hey, inquiring minds want to know...:D

CMP Field Grade. Stock is in great shape, just a few character marks. It doesn't swallow much of the bullet, looks like they quit sending tag with MW and TE. I'm tickled plum to death.

I had originally ordered a rack grade that I was going to get rebarreled and put new stock in, and reparked. CMP changed wait time to 90-180 days, so I upgraded. I think that was the best $50 I could have spent. This one, I'm leaving alone.

Here's mine

This is the SA SG I just got 20 hours ago with my Springfield '03.

Mine looks to be all Springfield except for the bolt. It's an HRA. It also still has the original barrel. SN 5851xxx.

I'm a little envious of your SN.

The stock on yours is in much better shape than the stock on the service grade I got from CMP a couple of years ago. Mine is a USGI SA with a 1944 serial number and a matching barrel (dated 5-44) that is probably original to the receiver. The stock is a replacement, though (bearing the RRA stampe for the Red River Arsenal in Texas) that looks like it was used as a fencepost for several decades. I've been looking for an original SA/NFR stock to put on it, but haven't found one in decent condition for under $200. I may end up just putting a repro stock on it.

nice

i just hope nobody takes this as an invitation to make a "this is my gun" thread :)
