Ok so my dad got a us army 1911 auto loader, and we decided to try it out at the range. We put 71 rounds through before he had to leave and at home I was asked to clean it. I took it apart and the ejector rod(I think thats its name) popped off when it never came off when I cleaned it before shooting.
This is it with the rod off.

This is what it was like before.

Now I thought it was supposed to do that at first untill it I looked at it closer, and it looks like the pin broke on the front have in this pic.

My question is, is it safe to use as is? If not where would a good place be to get a replacement part that wont break after 71 rounds? And also can I install the part myself? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

p.s. Sorry for the blurry photos, big hands small camera :(

Well, I guess it's technically safe, but it ain't gonna work. Unless the gun is secondhand or has been extensively tinkered with, I would send it to the manufacturer for repair. An ejector leg shearing off is quite a defect, and I can't imagine them not replacing it for you.

Well I dont like sendin it in to the factory unless I have to :fire: So I was wonderin if its possible to buy a replacement part and fix it myself, or have a gunsmith fix it instead.

I would take it to a smith at the very least. Digging the front ejector leg out is going to be a bit of a chore.

I understand your desire not to send it to the factory, but this is one of those times when I would really want to have them work it over. If we were talking about a bad extractor or a poorly staked plunger tube, I wouldn't be all that concerned, but the ejector shearing right off after 71 rounds is out there as far as defects go.
