Am I the Only One That Doesn't Like the USP?

Different strokes for different folks. You like it or you don't. For example, I am not the biggest Beretta handgun fan. They are fine handguns, just haven't seen fit to spend the dollars on them.

Now I like the USP. However some have an issue with it. It's a great handgun. However if you don't like it, you might want to think about selling it and getting something else. It's not worth your time and space to have guns you don't like nor want to shoot.

leave em for the ninjas

I can't learn to like the HK pistols either. They are excellent guns for what they do but...

too big
too blocky
single handedly the worst double action trigger on the market
sa triggers are nothing to write home about
grip is too long and too narrow

The rest is all positive though And I consider them very well made and very reliable. Just not very ergonimically designed. And yes that means the P7 too. You can't get a more rectangular grip than that.

I disagree with some of the other posters. If the gun just doesn't feel right, it doesn't feel right. Sure putting more rounds through it you will get used to it. But hell people get used too lots of things that suck. That is no way to go through life. Last I heard it is all about the pursuit of happiness not settling for what the other guys like.

I could get used to the grip but never the trigger. Bleahk

A couple thoughts...

First, different guns fit different people's hands better. So the H&K might not be the best for you. I narrowed down my last gun purchase between a SIG P239 and a H&K USP Compact. I chose the USP because the controls felt better to me. I don't regret getting the H&K and I have 2 now, but it may not be a good fit for you.

Secondly, at 20 rounds... you haven't given the gun a fair chance. I would get some additional range time in before making any decision at all.

HKs and Sigs suffer from the same problem - high bore axis. My wife and I shoot a lot of IDPA matches, both in state and out of state. We almost never see either of these guns at the matches. Competition brings out the best and worst features of guns. The guns that are the easiest to shoot fast and accurately are the ones that win matches. Money is not an issue.

I have one polymer gun as in general I dislike polymer anything. Its a USP Tactical .45. Its a very accurate, soft shooting .45 that you can add a suppressor if you want. The Match trigger is excellent and I like the C&L ability. The grip doesn't fit me as well as a CZ or BHP, but its a nice .45, but I like the trigger reach as I have large hands, not small girlieman hands. :)

I bought a HK USP 9mm fullsized. I have sent less than 100 rounds down it. I just don't like it. It is thick in the grip. Feels like a 2X4. I tried to like it but I just don't. It is the last polymer I wil ever buy.

So I am trading it for a Sig P220. :)

BevrFevr, I would absolutely disagree with that statement. You obvsiously have never fired a S&W 910 or a S&W 3913. Which H&K's have you actually fired rounds through?

Tried a USP full size and a compact in 40. the compact wasn't bad, but the full size felt very top heavy and didn't balance well. it always seemed to me like I was having to twist my hand back to keep it balanced instead of it just pointing with a neutral balance.

I think a glock balances better in my hand as far as polymer guns go.

oh and the mag release sucks:neener:

USP's just seem too wide and blocky for my hands. From what I remember of my old two-tone USP .40, it was a well-made, well thought out pistol, but I didn't shoot it well, so I sold it. Kinda want it back, but in 9mm. Thing is, there are so many other 9mm pistols that fit me better for less $$$.

I don't like them either though I have tried. The ergonomics don't work for me, trigger action is twice as poor as the price tag would suggest it should be, expensive magazines, hinky two stage recoil feel and I just can't like them.

They have shown decent accuracy and good reliability, that goes a long way.

For the money I would take two used Glocks ANY day. I could afford the HK's with no problem, I just can't spend my money on them.

Ah you got me there.

I have only fired a USP elite. With the fancy target everything.

Hardly any recoil although the muzzle flip was impressive. I stand by my words on the trigger though. Seemed like a mile and a half of gravel road in a covered wagon with bad ssprings that hits a brick wall at the end. Of course, that wall falls cleaning over at what felt like five pounds even.

It was a thousand dollar gun with a $75 dollar guns trigger. I have heard the word but never new what it meant but after shooting the Elite the best word to describe the trigger is "Spriongy" pr. spr-ooin-ghe

I have pulled the trigger on virtually every pistol HK makes. It is easy to get a taste for almost everything on the market by going to an NRA convention.

You are right on this "You obvsiously have never fired a S&W 910 or a S&W 3913." as I have not.

I bought a NIB USP Elite 9mm for $1000, and after shooting it a few times I decided that I just didn't like the feel of it. I took some of the money from selling the Elite and bought a NIB CZ-75B stainless for $500. I love the CZ, and can shoot it every bit as well as I could the twice as expensive USP Elite.

I would have to say that out of all the DA/SA semi-autos I have fired the 3913 has by the far the most heinous trigger pull. It is absolutely atrocious. To each his own though. As long as you are happy with what you have then that is all that matters.:D :D As far as Glocks go, my previous NIB G19 with the 5.5# creaky, spongy trigger had to go.  It was not something I could get used to after 12+ range sessions. Gosh I just love my revolvers though!!!

hk was the stuff of legend

When I was a youngster that is. Now I think it is typically overdesigned and over expensive for what it does. Germans have a bit of a track record here. Of course I would sell something dear for a legal mp5.

For me i have to say that glock triggers are far more consitent than an hk trigger. I would buy a glock over an hk. Just like I would buy almost any Swiss product over anything Austrian for the same price.

There are lots of good guns I don't care for. The USP is one of them. Feel, looks and trigger. :barf:

I'll trade you my Glock for your USP. I know you've heard this already but I had to say it (type it).

Bingo! if the USP were priced like Glocks I'd likely have one, but for $620+ and $40-50 for extra mags everytime I think I might want one, its too easy to find something else to do with that money instead. They feel even clunkier in my hand that does a Glock but at least extra mags for Glocks are cheap and plentiful.

No kidding. I paid through the nose for a bunch of 12rd USP .45 mags. Good grief, what a waste (now).

I think I am going to sell it. Since I really don't enjoy the gun, I might as well stick to guns I do enjoy.

Yes, the trigger pull on a Glock is more consistent than that of an USP9 because the USP9 is DA/SA and the Glock is whatever it is. I went back to the range today and fired 250+ rounds out of my USP9 and it is WAY BETTER than the G19 I had. I can actually get 6+ shots in the bullseye at 15 yards!! I agree that the price on the H&K's is is more than a Glock, but only by $150 or so. Oh yeah, Glocks mags may be cheaper, but I have two friends that had to contact Glock because of their magazines not loading Winclean and Federal ammo properly. I will take my USP over anything else!!:D :D

Just like I would buy almost any Swiss
product over anything Austrian for the same price.
???

Which Swiss product are you referring to, a Swiss army knife??

USP Full Size

If you don't have a full size hand it won't fit :banghead: , so don't get a full size gun, then blame the gun. I do and it does. I love it :) .

Thats the dumbest comment I have read today. :barf: :banghead:

Look at two classic full sized guns the Browning Hi-power and the 1911. Both are fullsized gun that are very slim in the hand. The 1911 benefits from a single stack mag but the BHP was the first Hi-cap 9mm.

"Full Size" describes the barrel not necessarily the gun. I shoot Fullsized CZs,Sigs,Colts and BHPs with no trouble and I have smaller hands. The H&K has a grip like a 2X4. Some like it some don't.
