I used to have an MKII 512, but that thing was a POS jamomatic.
I know this gun is very accurate, when it works.

Now they have a newer, MKIII. Who has this gun? How much was it?
I'd like to see pic of the left side, it looks like they have regular thumb release mag and a giant LCI.

From my understanding, the giant Loaded Chamber Indicator rests on the rim of the ammo to indicate it's loaded.

Think about that for a second. A metal bar is touching the rim of rimfire ammunition.

Does this seem like a bad idea to anyone else?

I paid $289 (you can probably find them for less) for mine. It is very accurate. Can be picky about the type of ammo though. But once you find what it likes, no problems. I've read similar comments on the Ruger MkII forum.

Mine seems to like CCI MiniMags. Shoots them straight and no mis-feeds, or failures to eject. I've also noticed the CCI's seem to burn pretty clean. I had problems with Wolfe Target, Federal Gold Medal, Winchester Target and, although not as much, the Wal-Mart Federal Value Pack. Quite a few FTE's & FTF's and lots of fouling. I also went with a dry lube after I clean which I read on the Ruger forum as well.

The mag release is a button style just behind the trigger and forward of the grip like most of the other autos I am familiar with (never seen the one on a MKII). I put the Ruger wood target grips from on mine which makes it a little tougher to reach, but that was my choice. No problems reaching it with the stock grips.

Overall, I'm happy with it. It's a great target shooter or plinker, whatever you like. I put a red scope scope on mine and off a target rest, it's dead on.

I have the Ruger III, in the Hunter version 6 7/8" Stainless Steel.

I have really liked it.

I mentioned in another thread about my trip to the range this past weekend. I attempted to have a go at 50yards Bullseye and was please that I was able to hit the targets shooting an 82/100-90/100 over 5 targets. So although I don't really know what that means for those that are good shooters I was pleased that I am dinner plate accurate at 50 yards.

I have been pleased with mine.

I have used different ammo and the stuff that I bought at Walmart in the green box, jammed and failed to fire a lot, but have had only one using the CCI Blazer ammo so the ammo definately was a factor for me.

The loaded chamber indicator is not noticed by me as I shoot lefty and it is on the left side. I have no opinion on it>

I paid $390 +$100 for the dot scope

hope this litte anecdote helps with your question

have a great day

cavman

edit: forgot to mention the the picture shows a "loaded" chamber. the little indictor forward of the Ruger name sticks out. You can just see a sliver of red paint. Also, the mag release is the little button just rear of the trigger next to the wooden grip. The button rear of the grip is the safety.

I don't have a Mark III, but I did just recently ( about 3 weeks ago ) pick up a Mark II.

I was having problems with jamming, and failure to eject/fire at first with mine as well. It turned out that it was the ammo I was using. I have since tried a few different brands, and settled on CCI mini mags. It works flawlessly now. Could be that the jamming problems you were experiencing were also due to ammo.

I've got a Mk III, not the particular one you've got pictured there, but it's a blued, Mk III, 22/45, 4" bull barrel. I love it. The loaded chamber indicator is a big non factor as is the magazine disconnect to me.

Mine jammed a few times the first day I had it, but I think it was more the ammo I was using. I forget what it was, but it was Federal in a blue box. The stuff seemed to have a really sticky lube on it. Once I stopped using that, it's been pretty much flawless since then.

I think I paid $279.00 for mine.

I've also got the 22/45 MkIII, SS with 5.5" bull barrell. I've found it to be very accurate, and reliable as long as it's not too dirty or dry. I actually like the loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect. After all, it's not for self defense, but for pleasure shooting (wife/kids). I paid $290.00.

No. Because the extractor also rests against the rim when the shell is chambered.

Ah, but does the extractor protrude from the barrel/frame when a shell is loaded? A dropped gun that lands on the indicator could easily cause a discharge, in my opinion.

I simply can't believe the Ruger guys of all people would do something that could be so dangerous. There must be a catch.

Btw, I bought one of these babies this week (MkIII BBL 5.5 STS) (NIB $399 + tax&fees). Stupid commie laws make me wait for 10 days for pickup. If I were ultrarich, I'd be suing the state till the end of times for infringements on 2A. Grrrr

Where did you get yours from? I have to wait till next month to get one as I just bought a new Glock I'm picking up this Friday.

There is a catch.

It's not a simple metal bar resting on the rim. The external part of the LI doesn't touch the shell. When a cartridge is loaded into the chamber, the side edge of the rim moves a little metal "guide" about 1/32". This metal guide is connected to the external part of the LI by a spring. The spring between the metal guide and external LI is slightly stronger than the spring that holds the external LI in the unloaded position, so the external LI moves to indicated that a cartridge is loaded.

You can flatten the LI against the side of the frame/barrel, and all it does is take up the slack in the spring. I used my pinky as a simulated cartridge and pushed the metal guide until the LI showed a loaded chamber, and then flattened the LI against the frame. I could not discern any increase in pressure on the "cartridge".

This is a non-issue.

Where did you get yours from?

Turner's Outdoorsman on Monday Sickle de Mayo. People were buying guns like crazy. I think there were four pickups and four purchases while I was there - a shotgun, a Sig, a Desert Eagle, a collapsible carbine, and a rifle and some pistols I did not get to see.
