and this review:

Well we just finished our first course. hso and I was able to gather 10-12 shooters and a couple range officers. Many thanks to those who helped in setting this up. Many thanks to hso, we just wouldn't have been able to do this without the man. Not only is he a resource he is a true believer in learning new techniques. Just West of the Airport We started off Saturday morning. Twelve shooters in all we split up into two groups, one would shoot while the other recharged mags. Six ft ready on the left, ready on the right, commence firing. Bang, bang, two shots center mass. Everyone on the line was impressed. We continued to move back and alternate.

We had a mix of talent, some local shooters, LE, and five or six from out of state. All good shooters, but no one had seen anything like this. Brownie, when he could keep his magazine in his pistol was very impresive with his demonstrations. The LE officers present were probably the most impressed that first morning. They could not believe their abilities. I had my Brother in Law with me and I remember telling him as I watched the second group "Look how slow those guys are." "They don't stand a chance in a gunfight"! At the end of the day they would prove me wrong. One guy had his sights taped so he could not use them. He did not remember having the tape on until packing up that night. They were all shooting very good with good holster speed. We shot half hip, center lock, full extension, stand and deliver, move and deliver, on your knees, upside down on your back, hell I forget what all we did. It was a blast, but ahhhh the half hip, what can I say. Just last week I aurgued that you would be better off fully extending well I was wrong. I'm a good 30 to 40 percent faster shooting from the hip. I now I can do it very accuratley. I actually have preformed this before during my work but just didn't know how I did it. Now I do. To Brownie and the rest of his instructors you are on to something special here. My hats off to you guys. Now I just need to practice the hip shooting some. "Hey homie, Is that my briefcase?!"

Students will have a well grounded understanding and proficiency in threat focused self defense pistol shooting using several well known systems.

Cost $400.00

Anyone interested in attending these dates, email me at [email protected] or pm me here. You may also contact HSO and JMusic from this forum as they are again sponsoring this event.

Brownie beat me to it, but I just want to reiterate that we had a great time in April when we took the course and that I, obviously, think that point shooting should be part of our skill set.

We discussed various times that would work for the next class and picked the weekend of Oct. 14 because it won't be too hot or too cold or too wet in E. TN (and because it's the only weekend in Oct. that UT Knoxville isn't playing football ;) , GO VOLS).

I do encourage everyone interested in point shooting techniques to attend.

I recently took this course and too recomend it highly. Bring plenty of ammo and mags, or your favorite wheel gun and speed loaders. Expect to shoot 1500 to 2000 rounds in two days. The last course consisted of shooting from 6 to 30 ft in various postions, static and moving. This is mostly a hands on course you spend alot of time on the line. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Wish I could attend, Brownie . . . but with the after-effects of my injury, I've got a long road ahead of me to regain fitness before I risk another class. I tried one with Mike recently, with bad results. Sucks to be me right now, but that's life, I guess. :(

Peter,

Sorry to hear about your injury, but do feel free to drop in as our guest and have a look anytime that weekend.

It would be a good chance to meet and chat, put some faces with the names. The invitation stands at the very least if you change your mind, of course.

Peter,

I thought that was only first thing in the morning before you got your face on.;) (you aliens are so self-concious)

I try to keep refreshing the fundamentals of what Brownie taught us back in April. Today I had Paul time me and the time it took from his tap on my shoulder to me drawing from the pancake holster behind my right hip to putting 5 rounds of .45 on the target ranged from a slowest of 2.3 sec. to a fastest of 1.23 sec. I usually stayed around the 1.5 sec. for most of the dozen drills. Times for the draw and retreat right or left firing ranged from 3 sec to 1.8 sec to put 5 on target. DP did about 1.5 sec with his Glock .45 for 3 rounds on target.

It was a nice class, even if I did fall down on the training course while shooting.
But I was able to hit my target while falling. :neener:

PWard,

You fell down solely due to the dynamics of that particular transition and drill which had you firing the weapon from two different vertical heights while also moving straight at the threat/target.

I was impressed that once you started to lose balance you emptied your firearm into the targets COM before hitting the dirt. You maintained focus on the objective and threat, taking it out even as you went down. Nice work.

I have been informed that my co-instructor, 7677, will be able to make the October event this time as well.

JMusic and HSO, Good times and training coming in October to Tenn. Round em up for this one like last time.

Paul did very well during that fall. He said he knew he was going down shortly after he came up off the knee, but that he stayed focused on the target and knew if he kept running the gun he'd slidelock before he ever hit the ground. He also said that he never doubted that the rounds were going where he wanted them to go. What was impressive was that he was correct.

For those out of towner's looking for a place to stay I have access to some corporate discount rates on motels close to me. PM me for details.

Shooting at the range the other day I was practicing the elbow up down drills shooting 2 shots com one to head half hip. After a short period of time I was attracting a small crowd. "Where did you learn that?" I told them I had recently taken a Threat Focused shooting course and it had changed my thought process of self defense shooting. After a few more questions and demo's many wanted to know more. Can't blame them it is impressive to see for the first time but once you have been instrusted it becomes so natural it feels like you have been doing it for a long time. For those interested in offensive or defensive gun techniques be it Military, LE or self defense for CCW holders this is a must class.

This course in Knoxville has reached capacity. No slots are available for mid October but we'll be back in the spring of 07 for more of the same.

I'm also planning a rifle course in Quick Kill and instinctive shooting in the spring of 07 in Knoxville, if you are interested just pm me here or connect with me at [email protected]

You'll be able to use levers, ak's, ar's and battle rifles. Bring what you have, the techniques transition well to any of your long guns/assault rifles.
