AS usual I stopped by the shop today to see if anything interesting had come in on trade or new. The owner was saying he was going to call a person who put a HK91 on layaway to see if they still wanted it. Seems they haven't put any money on it in some time. Let me say that it was a good looking weapon. Lots of extras like 5 mags that went with it. Its priced at $3200. Fair price or not.

If you're looking for a shooter rather than a collector, are you familiar with JLD Enterprises? They're building almost exact copies of the HK-91s which are no longer imported.

They get great reviews, folks are happy with their gear, and the price run around $700 and up, depending on model.

Oh, and yes, I do love collapsing-stock HKs (or Iranian full-auto licensed copies thereof)

The cheapest I seen on a real 91 was $1800, the most was $3000, that had a Zeiss scope, special trigger group, and more.....
They run around here usally $2000 to $2500.....
She is way too high...

OH its the real thing. It has quite a few xtras. I particularly liked the quick disconnect scope and mount. If I get a chance I'll check the list of xtras that come with it. Now I do know that there was an extended mag release which I liked.

Check the make of the scope and mount, among other things. If it's the Tapco T-28 and mount, that shouldn't add so much to the price. If It's the Hensold & Wetzlar scope and mount that's a legitimate several hundred dollar addition to the price.

ETA: Just like with a bargain basement Century CETME, you can whip out the metric feeler gauge and see if the rollers need replacing; it's almost the same design, and that's how they are designed to wear. You pay a premium for genuine a H&K product that's more or less equivalent to the JLD builds.

Even if it has a German scope and mount, $3200 is still too much.

If it has a club-foot stock, Williams set-trigger, or other goodies that would push the price up more. Some people made them into PSG1 clones, and that could be worth $3200.

Find out the specs and what it comes with.

When the goofy ban went into effect over ten years ago HK Steel magazines that were selling for twenty dollars suddenly ended up priced at a hundred bucks each.
Since the repeal of the ban magazines are actually cheaper now than they were before the ban.
The seller may still think the magazines are worth a five hundred dollar premium.
Even so and deducting that hopeful thought right off the bat, the seller is still about six hundred dollars above the going market rate.
The rifle is worth about $2100.00 on todays market and that is probably why the first hopeful buyer hasn't made a payment, he wised up and is now too embarrassed to go back and get some of his down payment back.
As a side note.
My PTR-91 rifle is more accurate than any of the HK-91/G3 rifles I have ever fired before and at $700.00 it was way less money than you would spend on an original HK rifle.

I agree. I paid $675 for a like-new PTR-91 with a case, half a dozen mags and 400 rounds of South African milsurp. I added a Tapco claw scope mount with picatinny rail adapter and a Burris scope, got a good trigger job done, put a Tac-Latch paddle mag release in, and put a G3 wide forearm and bipod on it. All together, I have a little over $1,000 in it, and boy will it shoot! Here's my baby:

The only reason I would buy a real HK is if it was new in the box (or near to it), and/or had some unusual/rare characteristics or provenance. Even then, I would be buying it only as a safe queen. There's no reason to shoot one with cheap, reliable, accurate PTR-91's available.

Bear in mind that mags are 75 cents a piece right now. Thats right, 75 CENTS each

I stocked up on G3 mags when they were $1 apiece. I couldn't imagine them getting any cheaper, but they did!

If you look at the pic I posted above, you'll see there's a 30 round mag in the picture, too. It is kind of pointless, and was a waste of $20. Besides being ridiculously heavy when loaded, it is too long to use from a prone position or bench.

I paid $2 a piece for mine. I've got 16 and dont really need more, but just out of curiosity, where are they being sold for 75 cents?
