Actually, the round is .002" smaller. The .38 Special can be loaded to modern 9mm performance but in many factory loads it is slightly below. The difference in performance isn't that great. The discussion here is the advantage of the shorter round(and cylinder) for carry. The 9mm Luger round is also typically cheaper for those that only shoot commercial.What makes the 9mm more powerful?
