I was thinking about the Taurus Tracker 970 (.22lr) in SS and was wondering if anybody had some input on this revolver?

Thanks,

Mr.Caliber

Well first heep in mind its a taurus. Not as pretty as a smith, not as durable as a ruger. Now with that said, myself and two friends each bought one new. None of us have had any problems with the guns. From experience they dont like the dirt cheap ammo. I know...I know... I learned my lesson. I use CCI only now in the .22. We bought these guns due to the "need" to shoot often on blue collar budgets. 22lr being the obvious caliber we started searching. Being wheelgun fans we decided on 6" revolvers. We selected the tracker and it has met our expectations. After hours and hours of plinking, approx 4000 rounds and even about a dozen squirrels I can say my tracker has earned it keep. I will also mention to stay clear of the 94 model as I have seen many bad reviews of it on here.

I have a Tracker in 22 with the 6" barrel and its been a good gun. I don't the the squishy grip for a target gun but I'm in the process of getting a replacement. Wouldn't trade in my Smith 617 for one but it shoots good and I have no complaints.:)

Taurus 970

Mr. Caliber
I purchased a 970 for my Ladies Handgun Class. It has been perfect. Several ladies has offered to purchase it.
Some find it heavy but noone complaints about the accuracy. It will drive nails at 25 yards.
It probably has 2500 rounds shoot thru it and it is better than new.
I would highly recommend a 970 to anyone wanting a accurate, dependable 22 revolver.

Above are pics of my Tracker, pre and post scope. the tracker is a serious shooting revolver. heavy and steady for silloquette shooting, hunting and plinking. price for the stainless is about $329, blued is about $279.

The DA trigger is a little heavy if youre not used to DA revolver triggers, but shooting will work out your finger. SA trigger pull is not too bad, but needs a little work to make it better. what i did was to hold one thumb on the hammer to cusion the blows and i must have pulled the trigger about 1000 - 1500 times to smooth it out. people say that the Wolf spring kit for the taurus tracker line works well to improve the pull, might try that sometime down the road.

Sights are probably the best open sights ive ever used. the orange out front shows up great in the black rear sight with the white outline.

I did not like the factory Ribber grips exclusive to the Taurus line. it feels too mushy for my needs, but you may like it. i got the Hogue replacement grips for it and have really gotten a great fit with them. It really makes for a nice two hand hold on the gun when aiming/steadying the shot freehand.

the Tracker will probably shoot better than i can, im just getting into revolvers from a few years of starting off with auto pistol .22's.

now, with the simmons 4 X 32mm pistol scope and CCI mini-mag HP's im getting groups at 25 yards of about 1 1/4" or so. like i said, im not a great revolver shot... yet, but im working on it.

if you do get one, make sure you buy get alot of different types of ammo to try for grouping. then buy up all you can and hord it. good luck! -Eric
