I currently have a 10/22 Carbine. I mix between squirrel, racoon and target shooting. In a perfect world, I would be a competant woodworker and be able to turn my stock into a M1 Carbine, but I can't so I won't. I would like a pistol grip stock and I like the looks of the Choate stock, but I've heard bad reviews with the fit. I plan to keep the stock barrel. Any info on what you've tried would be great and pics are better.

I'm a big fan of the ATI stock (http://atigunstocks.com/product-ruger.html) that I picked up as an impulse buy. Fit was fine, all I did to touch it up was run a pocket knife along the molded seam and trim what little bit of edge there was and it's great! If you have a scope on your 10/22, this little lightweight stock is great for hunting. Pistol grip is just right for me and the stock positions you in line for a scope. (Doesn't work so well for me with open sights though.)

Not the best photo, but:

Okay, now I know they have a terrible reputation and are cheap, but ATI has always worked for me. Here is my 10/22 in the fiberforce stock. I will have a forward pistol grip (AR-15 style) and a laser sight on the stock as soon as my rails from tapco come in. I would NOT recommend this stock for using iron sights as it is very uncomfortable, but it is fine for a scope.

It's my plinker, but it will get a squirrel at 50 yards even with all the tacti-crap! Mostly, it's just a heck of a lot of fun.

Otherwise, tapco has a neat stock for the 10/22, and so does 1022central.com

EDIT: Wow quickdraw, looks like we had some ESP happening!

I currently have three 10/22's. The only factory stock remaining on any of the guns is on my International. The other two, well, there are not many stock pieces remaining. My squirrel gun has a "Hogue" overmolded stock. My fun, rather un-politically correct, evil black rifle wannabee 10/22 has the "Choate" pistol grip stock to which you refer. I have had this stock on my first 10/22 for well over 18 years. I recently took the barrel and receiver from a 10/22 compact and married them with this stock. Talk about a light and accurate combination. Note: In order to use the low profile fiber optic sights on the compact model, the top piece of the Choate stock had to be modified with a Dremel tool.

I had a 16" barreled carbine ~20 years ago, with the Choate folder, a blued flash supressor, a Bushnell Banner 2.5x scope in Weaver rings, and a "homebrewed" simple sling. I have missed the thing badly since I traded it away...

I'm doing it again now, just with the 18" barreled 10/22 base carbine.

The last season that I squirrel hunted in WV with the original, I fired 21 shots, and had 19 foxsquirrels in the freezer. It made a coon hunter VERY happy when I let it go.

I know that this rig is kinda "old school" but...so am I it seems... :neener: -FNR.
