Hope this forum is OK for this question.......

I just finished depriming, sizing and polishing about 200 rounds of .45 brass. This was all factory ammo I shot the other day with about 100 rounds being Speer 230gr GD's. In the bunch there were about 6 cases that looked like the ones below. The only cases that had the dents and scratches were the Speer cases (btw, they are nickel). Anyone have any ideas on what or why this happened?

I just checked all the brass that has gone thru that gun.............and found 6 cases like these, all were Speer, all from the same box, and what I thought were dents are just part of the problem. The cases are cracked. It appears that Speer has a bad batch of brass. I'm going to try to contact them tomorrow. If anyone has a phone number contact for this type of thing please pass it on to me.

Rather strange cracks too ! I wish I had those to look at here.

Dented brass

Working with Dented brass is easy!
Tun the brass through your flareing die and then through your taper crimp die. That will take the dent out.

I would check the dies or see if something is in the tumbling media. A sizing die will remove all the dents. Those verticle scratches looks like something may be in a die.

That's what I thought but when I loooked at the cases real close that's when I found that the "scratches" were cracks in the cases NOT scratches.

UPDATE FROM SPEER

I heard back from Speer about the cracks in the cases. I was told that during the tumbling process, which is part of the nickel plating process, the tumbler stopped long enough so that the cases were stuck against each other for an unacceptable time period. They did say that the remaining ammo I have from that lot should be safe to use.

I'm suprised they didn't offer to replace them, at least with empty brass.

I should have posted that they are sending me 2 boxes of ammo. GOOD for Speer, too bad the seller didn't care about the bad stuff.

IMHO nickel cases always wear out long before brass. Your photo's are typical to me.

Super action on Speer however.
