My wife just called to reserve rooms at the NRAWC and was informed that every available room at the WC has been reserved by a national women's organization for May 18 and 19.

Of course, nobody bothered to inform me of that when I was reserving ranges. Also, we were told we couldn't reserve rooms until Feb 1, but this group reserved their rooms in January.

The weekends before and after are available (May 12-13 or 26-27).

We have a couple of options: Either change the dates, or attempt to get rooms in Raton, although I bet those are hard to get also.

I need some input fast. Keep in mind that May 28th is Memorial Day.

Sorry about the hassle folks.

I think Memorial Day weekend would be the best, however, I'd like to hear from those of you coming from far away. Can you change your reservations or vacations?

It may actually work out for the better since we may be able to get the Hunter Pistol Silhouette range.

I won't be able to try and get ranges until Monday, since Mr. Armacost is off this week. We'll get housing set up as soon as I get the ranges reserved.

Either weekend is fine with me. Memorial day would save me some vacation time...

I am within 150 or so miles of the range , and due to my lifestyle sceduling is problematic , I would really like to attend if possible , but are drop inns welcome . I am not shure enough i can make it to reserve ect.. Larry can prob confirm on my issues as a rancher/ farmer in se colorado .

OK.

Dave, you were the one I was worried about. Looks like our best bet is Memorial Day weekend.

I won't know anything for sure until Monday, when Wayne is back in the office. I'll get the ranges reserved, and Sandy will get some housing reserved, and I'll post a new schedule of events as soon as I can put it together.

RR, You betcha. Drop in, you'll be welcome, hope we can find a place for you to sleep. BTW, you have pheasants, I have turkeys, how about we make a trade?

Additional considerations for people to think about: Mother's Day is May 13. Whittington Center is showing 4 events on its calendar over Memorial Day Weekend, which makes me question whether they would have more onsite housing available then. I suspect it would be easier and cheaper (moreso if Memorial Day weekend is chosen) for people to look for rooms in the Raton area on the weekend already scheduled. YMMV

Memorial Day is out for me. Another guy here at work ALWAYS takes that off, as it's his anniversary. No way the boss will let us both off at the same time, I'd get laughed right out of his office.

Any other weekend- SAY THE WORD. I'll be there.

I might be out as well. I might be moving to Georgia the 1st week of June. I have a job offer (still Air Force stuff) and have to decide by next week if I want it. If so, I'll be packing up and heading East.

Can't we all just camp?
We could, I suppose, but it would be nice to have a meeting place, like the lobby of one of the competitors houses, or a founders cabin. WYO, same deal, I would rather not have us scattered all over Raton, and I suspect housing is sold out there as well (Raton is a small town).

I'm leaning toward Memorial Day, but I won't know much until Monday.

Well That's too bad the original date will not work.

Just see what will work and I will change my vacation.

I know that you guys can find something. :D

well...

...hell Larry, you just let us know, I'll sleep in the Jeep and bring a spare tent...
...you da' man!
I'll bring my own sugarthankyouverymuchfor the coffee
sign me,

Maybe I'm back!

Just noticed the potential date change, just after my last post of course...

I could fly down to Raton for Memorial day weekend, or just about any other weekend, it it changes.

Jhallrv4/NRA maybe back in the saddle!

My 50th birthday is on the 11th so that's out and we've sheduled the Rifle Point Shooting course for the other weekend. Pitty.

The 28th would be better for me. Either will do, though.

Have those dates been checked to make sure there is no other largish group there then?

Wayne Armacost is out of his office until tomorrow. I'll make sure this time I can get both ranges and housing.

I'll try to secure the hunter pistol silhouette range also. I think more people would have more fun there than the rifle range. Besides, the longe range rifle silhouette range is usually open to the public.

Who's driving from NC/VA/SC/etc?

Is anyone driving from NC or nearby that would be willing to give a soul a lift? Or would anyone ride with me if I drove?

OK, here's some news:

I talked to Wayne this morning. I've tentatively scheduled a trap range for May 26 and the Hunter pistol silhouette range for May 27. Housing is supposed to be available, Sandy will get right on that.

The long range rifle silhouette range is unavailable. They have a black powder cartridge match that weekend. But I figure more guys will have more fun on the hunter pistol range. Rimfires and pistol cartridges only, up to and including magnums, no bottleneck cartridges. There are 400 targets and 40 shooting positions, so we shouldn't be crowded.

I'll post a tentative schedule of events as soon as we can confirm housing.

larry, i don't get it. 10 targets per station? are these like steel silhouettes or something?

Sandy secured one building of the three competitors housing buildings today. That's room for 28 people (the volunteer housekeeper lives in that one, normally they hold 30 people). I'll post a new schedule tomorrow and we'll get some coordination started on housing.

Here's a pic of the hunter silhouette range. Range is from 25 to 100 yards. These are the pigs, at 50 yards. All pistol calibers are allowed, but we have more fun with 22lr than anything else here. Figure on using at least a brick a day, probably a lot more.

Well that sounds like lots of fun on the silhouette range!

I'm sending off my money tomorrow and I will see about getting some more bricks of ammo too. I don't want to deplet what I have already. LOL...

I'm interested in getting a room if there is enough. I will await your post and see what's going on.
