Finally a place where we can get together and share thought's on the most popular of all semi-auto handguns The 1911.

History:
The M1911 is a single-action, semi-automatic handgun chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. It was designed by John Browning, and was the standard-issue side arm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1985. It was widely used in World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Its formal designation as of 1940 was Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 for the original Model of 1911 or Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 for the M1911A1, adopted in 1924. The designation changed to Pistol, Caliber .45, Automatic, M1911A1 in the Vietnam era. In total, the United States procured around 2.7 million M1911 and M1911A1 pistols during its service life.

No matter who the manufacturer, Colt, Wilson, Kimber, Springfield Armory, STI International Inc, Strayer Voigt Inc, Les Baer, Evolution Gun Works, Para Ordinance, Taurus, Ed Brown, Smith & Wesson, Larry Vickers, Nighthhawk or any other manufacturer I might have left out.

Welcome

Be nice

GreenFurniture, be nice. They are all copies of the Original model. Let's be inclusive of all manufacturers, even some of the more poory made models. Not a great start to a club that will be all inclusive to all 1911 models. Behave yourself please.

What is it about the Taurus that doesn't make it a 1911? Does the same apply to a Rock Island or a SIG? Does it have to be "Made in the USA" even though most of Springfield Armory's aren't?

Just curious, as I find the 1911 to be an interesting platform that I haven't tried out yet.

Loving the double stack

I love my Para-Ords. They fit my big hands well. I cannot hold the single stack well, dosen't feel right. Well, except for that Colt Delta Elite in 10mm that I think I might couldn't live with out. Had a Llama double stack once. Traded up the Para for better quality.

I'd like to submit my registration

I got my first 1911 this year. A cheapie, an old Charles Daly. When I got it, it would jam every 10 or 15 rounds. I tried another magazine, same stuff. Before taking it to a smith, I decided to do some checking and got online. Pretty soon I was taking it apart with no tools except a screwdriver for the grips! I tinkered here and tuned there. It hasn't had a jam since...not one. Plus, it fits my hand and seems to be perfect for my natural point of aim.

So I'm a fan. I'm saving up for at least two more (yeah right) I want a quality, basic milspec model, maybe an old girl I can baby. Then I'd like a modern one, possibly a Les Baer or a Nighthawk.

I'll be taking it to the range again today. When I go, I take three or four guns to concentrate on...I always take the 1911.

I'm looking forward to the wisdom you guys bring to the thread. Hope you let me join the club.

Can I join?
