Toddler Caught on Camera Handling an AK-47

NEW ORLEANS, LA -- Louisiana pawnshop manager Dan Reese said he never thought he'd see a diaper-clad 2-year-old holding an AK-47.

But that's exactly what happened inside BJ's Pawn Shop, Reese said.

The toddler's father gave him the gun and proceeded to show the child how to hold, load and operate it.

"He's telling the boy, 'This is how you hold it, like this. Anybody in front of you, you can mow them down. Kill everybody, soldier, because daddy's going to buy you this chopper,' repeating it over and over," Reese said.

The store's surveillance video also shows the father and son marching around the store, showcasing the weapon.

With an assault rifle slung over the toddler's shoulder, Reese said he drew the line, took away the weapon and shut the gun case.

According to Reese, the father got angry and wanted to fight, but he never got the man's name.

Reese also said he'll sell AK-47s only to police officers now.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Harry Lee said he was concerned about the incident but said that the father didn't break any laws.

I cant load the link provided in this thread, but I saw the video on my local news. The video I saw did not show the boy waltzing around "sweeping" folks with the muzzle of the rifle. It showed them(the father and the kid) standing in one little area. And the video did not have audio so I cant be sure if the father made those remarks or if the salesman was full of it. BTW, I am farmiliar with BJ's and wouldnt put it past anyone working there to make that up. I had them do a transfer on a Romanian AK74 from AIM surpluss. The guy behind the counter didnt see why any normal person needed an unecessary weapon like an AK.

As far as the guy letting his kid hold the rifle, I really dont see a huge deal with it. Yeah, the kid is a bit young, but the Dad is right there. Like I said, the video I watched didnt show the kid sweeping anyone. I cant load the link provided in this thread.

But UZIs, ARs, MP5's, G3s and FALs are all still ok to sell to us stupid civilians, right? Because we all know that it's only those evil commie AK47's that are really deadly.

Hey, his business, his choice.

Any of you that do business with him are free to shop somewhere else from now on and be sure to let him know why.

Not selling to this GUY was the right thing to do, not selling to non-LEOs at all to get a bit of publicity is not.

If you live near enough to this store to be a potential customer, let them know ALL your business will go elsewhere.

If the kid's dad really did make those comments then he IS NOT REAL SMART

OTOH my daughter is almost two and, like all other toddlers, she is intensely curious about everything. DH and I have made sure that any time she wants to look at a gun, one of us makes sure it's unloaded and then she can investigate it all she wants.

Obviously when she gets older she'll be taught gun safety. For now, it's enough to take away the mystique so she'll lose interest and move on to something else.

And how many "Ak-47" rifles does he plan to sell to the police? pretty strange. Sounds like an idiot who has some other agenda and prefers not to sell any "Ak-47" style carbines/rifles.

That just sounds ludicrous that a father would chant over and over again to his toddler: shoot anyone in front of you, mow them all down.

Either way there is something really strange happening in LA: either the store owner is a lunatic (yes he has the right), or the father is a lunatic (yes, he also has the right).

First thing I thought when I heard this was "the anti-gun liberals set this up from the very beginning..."

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want, but anytime something in the news happens that makes guns look bad I'm positive that the liberals set it up.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if all these criminals and idiots using semi-automatic rifles got them from the liberal side and told to make gun owners look bad.

'This is how you hold it, like this. Anybody in front of you, you can mow them down. Kill everybody, soldier, because daddy's going to buy you this chopper,'
Maybe his next door neighbor was an 80 something year old grandmother.

Idiot proof systems are temporary. They keep building better idiots.

we used to call it sailor proof....and discovered there is no such thing!

The gun owner should have nipped it in the bud at square one....

if it's the real deal....

smells kinda fishy...

stupid is as stupid does.

Anyone else think the 'father' looks a lot more like a gang member?

And aren't the words he said the same as that Malvo kid and his buddy?

The irresponsible thing here is the Media for suddenly becoming bashful, and referring to the suspect as simply 'a father', trying to slander all gun owners.

What would you rather they referred to him as? That's the most fitting word. All you see in that pic is a small part of his leg anyways, so there's no reason to think he's a gang member by dress/attitude, or anything besides the fact that you can see it's the leg of a black man. "A guy who some racists think may be a gang member because he's black" doesn't flow as well.

Gang member, currently out on bail, knows he is going to be going to jail, wants to get his kid a gun so when the kid grows up to be 14 he too can be a 'soldier' for the bloods, cripps, LC-17 or what have you
