Can anyone identify this broken FAL part?

I had 5rds of Blackhills 175gr in a mag and on the 3rd round the gun jammed. The bolt closed on an unjected shell. I cleared the round and found this metal piece stuck in the chamber. I have fully disassembled my DSA STG-58 and can't find anything broken off.

I stopped by my gunsmith and he said it didn't look like a "working part." He's not too familiar with FALs, but he broke open a schematic for my gun and couldnt' find out where it came from.

It doesn't look like it came from a magazine either. The finish of the metal part looks like it came from the gun. I'm not 100% sure, though.

?????

Do you have an aftermarket dust cover/ scope mount on it (inside rail)?
Is the magazine release still in one piece?

Stuck in the chamber?? Yikes. It's kinda hard to tell what that is. What is the approximate dimension of the offending part?

I'd be looking more in the direction that Atticus stated.

I've been talkign to guys over at Falfiles and after closer examination I found out one of the clamps on the DSA mount broke.

I put another light bulb in the ceiling light and found out what broke off.

Its only a $3 part so I'm not holding my heart anymore.

Not happy this broke after 1600rds.

Has anyone ever heard of anything bad with these mounts? I don't remember hearing one bad thing about for the last two years. Now I'm hearing (and witnessed first hand) bad things.:cuss:

It's news to me. Except for being kind of bulky, I've always heard of the DSA unit being held in very high regard. No problems with mine, but round count is still low. Yours is the first I've heard of breaking.

Check your bolt carrier/breechface for damage. I'm guessing the locking plate screws loosened under recoil and allowed the plate to stick out into the path of bolt group. Sheared it off, scooped it up and chambered it.

Scary.

I have a tendency to not know my own strength and over tighten things. I may have over-tightened the screws a few months ago and stripped them.

That's scary, especially considering my own DSA scope mount just arrived today.

I guess I'll attach it "just tight enough" and then use some Loctite to keep the screws in place. Does DSA have a recommended torque rating for the screws? (Not that I have a torque wrench, but it would be nice to know.)

DSA should probably be contacted about this just so they know about the potential problem. Maybe they'll throw in the $3.00 part for free. :p
