Yep.. I have a converted .308 Saiga

I was thinking about getting one but know nothing about them.

Check the link in my signature for the Saiga Forum. They are a great resource.

Are they accurate out to 300 yards

Mine is able to do 1-1.5 MOA with an 8X PSOP scope, so I'd say you'd be fine.

Will they last

Yep, they are very well build manifestations of the time-proven Kalishnakov system, and are built at the Izhmash Armory.

Good luck!

Don't have one, but have fired a couple that friends have in .308.

Crude looking, clumsy, built like a tsnk, accurate, reliable, durable etc. It doesn't happen very often in this life, but once in a great while you actually get what you pay for or even a little bit more.:D

If I needed a powerful reliable rifle, and money was really tight, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.:)

I have had 3, sold them, couldn't live without them, back up to two. they are completely an ak, just built sporter style, and they are as accurate as many good bolt guns out there. They and cz's, are worth the money, or more , when you have them. Like the prev dude says, that is a rare thing. they also come with the longer bbls, and wood furniture, if you wanna keep the hunter look.

I have a 5.56mm model and love it to death. I'm going to convert it this summer to a real AK-look alike.

I have a 16" in .223 - great gun.

Fit and finish is damn impressive, just as good as most $700 AKs Ive handled or owned.

Seems to have that renown AK reliability....no problems to date.

Very handy rifle, they really should cost 2x what they are charging.

You can score them at Classic Arms for $240ish.

Thanks everyone on the fast replys.
One more question. What is the twist rate of the.308
Or what is the heaviest bullet I can use.

I like mine.
The rifle is durable, accurate and the twist is about 1 in 10"
Anything up to 168 grain works fine.

The Saiga is the sporting version of the 7.62X54 sniper rifle the Kalashnikov team offered up.
It was passed over in favor of the Dragunov because the accuracy wasn't as good at 600 meters.

I love my .223/5.56 Saigas......... I have two!!!

Are Saigas legal in California? Sorry, I tried to figure out the stupid AK variants section of the law here and couldn't make heads or tails.

I would prefer one with a wood stock, but I also want one in .223, so I'd have to get one of the plastic stock ones.

JWarren,

Everytime I see that Saiga .308 it makes me want to buy one and do a conversion of my own (besides my Saiga .223).

Yes, Saigas are legal without the pistol grip.

Paul at Gunrunners.org (Duarte) might have some too.

I just bought a 16" .223 Saturday afternoon. I love it. I've run about 130 rounds through her. I ordered a scope mount and red dot for it, they came in today and i'll mount them this weekend.

Saiga

I've had a 7.62x39mm Saiga for several years and really, really am happy with it. Is it a 300 yd rifle? Not even close, but what semiauto in this caliber is? Is is a great value? Oh, yea! It loves cheap ammo (Rooskie gun = Rooskie ammo). Never jammed or FTE -- always goes bang, even when filthy (carbon, mud, sludge, sand). Think of it as a crowbar that shoots.

Mine in .308 is my second favorite rifle. Just after my 1400 dollar AR-10 .... Go figure.

It's Tonka Tough and a very comfortable shooter. I'm a fairly poor rifle shot at 200 or so BUT a guy at the range I go to put a 4 round clover leaf on a target with one. 200 yards one jagged hole. It was neat. I couldn't do it, but that ain't the Saiga's fault :neener:

Well worth the money and a heck of a lot of fun.

I was hitting a 12" gong at the 200yd range today consistently with my ak103(siaga 7.62x39 converted by AKUSA). I can hit human silhouette targets just as well at 300yds, so I would say that the 7.62x39 model is capable. Mojo peep sight(adjustable peep) helps.

JWarren- Thats a real cool looking rifle. Did you get that from FBMG/Tromix? Damn:uhoh: , another gun added to the list, I need a better job:banghead: .

I just got back from the range and ran a bunch of Wolf .223 thru my SAIGA using the Surefire modified high capacity Weiger magazines.

Ran flawlessly and was minute of milk jug at 75 yards.
