IM geting a savage 12fvss or a howa 223 varmint gun. do you guys have reviews on eather. Pictures would be great. Thanks .

I can't comment on Savage/Stevens. I know they have a very good reputation. The accuetrigger gets very good reviews.

I have a Howa/Weatherby 300 Weatherby Magnum. Excellent fit and finish. Very accurate out of the box. Trigger needs adjusting or replacing with a Timney unit. I have read some reviews on Howa's varmint guns and they seem to get good marks as well.

Don't rule out an AR15 based varmint gun. My 20" 1/7 twist Govt profile AR will give most .223 bolt guns a run for their money out to 400 yards. Haven't shot mine farther than that.

They are about the same price, so flip a coin and decide that way. The Howa action is much nicer compred to the Savage actions, but that is just one man's opinion. Both rifles will be good shooters, so it will boil down to which one feels right in your hands. Nothing anyone on this board can say or do to make up your mind for you. So enjoy your purchase.

you know, i just looked at a Howa, and they are quite nice, this month's issue of Predator extreme has a very nice review of them, plus they have a package called the axiom. that comes with a totally customized stock, with an adjustable buttstock length, and adjustable cheekpiece, with a pistol grip.
it is alos designed with deep inbedded directional springs, which removes 70%
of recoil, which is outstanding.

While the Savage rifles are nice rifles, the Howas are better...

:)

Seriously (although I already was being serious), get the Weatherby Vanguard in .223 Rem. It's also a Howa and comes with a 24 inch barrel compared to the Howa Howa's 22 inch barrel (unless you get the heavy varmint barrel, of course)...

If you decide on the Savage, I think that you'll be happy with it too...

You'll be even happier with the Howa Howa or Vanguard Howa, and it's prettier to boot...

:)
