Normally I wouldn't even ask that kind of question, I'd just ditch whatever I wasn't sure of. The only reason I'm doing so is that this is the way the ammo came from the factory and it fired just fine the first time. (My brother shot them all during a recent day at the range with me. I probably wouldn't have shot them the first time, I'm kind of a chicken that way.) This is .357 mag, many of them have discolored rings or spots. I picked some of the worst offenders from the bunch. They're completely smooth, not rough or corroded. Anyone have any experience with anything like these?

I'm leaning towards better safe than sorry for the price of 50 rounds of brass vs the cost of my 686 + new fingers.

Winchester white box. The discoloration is, for the most part, at the point where the rounds contacted the styrofoam tray.

That's bizarre. It looks like rust, but the fact that it feels smooth rather than a little rough or obviously corroded seems to indicate otherwise. I'm real curious to see what some of the more experienced here have to say about this.

I've reloaded lots of brass that looked like that. Some of it had "polka dots", some of it rings. I've not seen any less number of reloadings out of it so it doesn't appear to be structural, just surface discoloration.

It's caused by moisture gathering at the point the brass contacts the top of the hole in the styrofoam. This is more prevelent in brass that's been stored in cardboard in a humid environment. I've seen it so bad it ate through the brass, but that takes a long time and the brass had been stored in an outside shed here on the coast.

Hope this helps.
