Smith & Wesson Model 39

This was one of the most accurate 9 mms ever produced. It was a single stack design and is a dream for CC. This is one of my favorites and history shows its accuracy. There were also some military versions of this gun that were kinda tactical sweet!....see pics.

I believe Guns & Ammo rated the most accurate production 9mm. I will see if I can locate the article.

They are very nice firearms.

Sigs are good. Glocks are ugly. Hk's are excellent. EAA Witness is ok. S&W's are fine. Still, have you tried the Cz-P01? It will definitely change your mind.

This is the order of my best to "less"-best. They are all accurate, but that BHP is just really accurate. It is more accurate than I. When I do my part, the bullets hit dead-on! A very close second goes to my SA XD 4". Then, my Glock 19C is nothing to be ashamed of, nor is my Glock 17. Of course, if I had the money for a custom-made 1911, 5", cone barrel, hard-chromed, etc. I can tell you one irrefutable fact: you have a difficult decision to make.

Browning P35
SA XD 4"
Glock 19C
Glock 17
Custom-made 1911

Tough to compare. "Out of the box" includes such a wide range of pistols, from $50 to $5000.

For around $200, I'd say Maks. Fixed barrels and all, eh?

For around $400, CZ-75b's are pretty damn accurate. A little rough around the edges, but it'll give you accuracy on a par with guns three times the price.

For around $500-800, Glocks, Sigs, and BHP's are great examples of accurate pistols. Of these, I've found the G34 to be worthy of particular mention (although 226's are boringly accurate as well). Oh, yeah, my CZ SP-01 (tricked out by Matt Mink) is prolly the most accurate 9mm I own.

Over $1000, you have the Sig 210's, X5's, HK P7's, 952's, etc. Lot's o' nice choices here, boy. Haven't shot a 952 yet, but I have shot the others. The X5 was the most accurate for me.

Overall, tough to beat CZ's in pound-for-pound OOTB accuracy. :)

My last FN/Browning High Power shot as well as any other pistol I've owned, including my 1911. 90 percent of it's the pistol's pointability. Other pistols I've shot that have very similar characteristics is the CZ75 and all the clones.

Get a Sig 210 and be done with it. They are by far the most accurate out of the box and are built exceptionally well. 210 owners like me talk about how the interior machine work is better then the exterior machine work on most guns. It is hard to describe how well made they are.

As an aside, you have 3 basic questions, light frame or heavy, adjustable or fixed sights and then long barrel or shorter (conventional).

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions...glad to see this thread is still going. As for why I chose 9mm over reloading a 45 is that I live in a rather small space and a reloading setup really doesn't go with the couch in the living room. :)

If you like 1911's then I would suggest a 1911 in 9mm. I have the Springfield Loaded in 9mm and it shoots really well with 147 grain lead reloads.

The S&W 39 is a very accurate gun. I have had some reliability issues with mine but I think it's due to a worn out extractor.

My favorite 9mm is the Sig P226. My best group is 5 shots at 21 feet off-hand, all the holes are touching.
