2. Alexandria police harass a gun owner AGAIN!
**************************************************

http://www2.vcdl.org/cgi-bin/wspd_cgi.sh/vcdl/vaarchive.html

Police lie to gun owner and tell him the store owner said to remove him. Store owner tells gun owner she did not tell officers he had to leave in the presence of the same officers. She only wanted to make sure the gun owner was legal. Police took it upon themselves to make gun owner leave.

Ok, let ME be the first to say"that guy was an asshat".;)

He should have known that just because it is legal AND protected by the constitution that he would get jacked up over it.

Now can I be one of the cool kids?

Paco- Nope. You are not cool. You are an Asshat also (whatever that is). Just because it is legal and protected for you to exercise your 1A rights does not mean that you should not get jacked up for it. :)

This is in my town. Alexandria, VA is an anti-gun city. They had an ordnance on the books making it illegal to carry a handgun. Pre-emption did away with that law although from what I understand, it's still on the books.

This town boasts of George Washington attending church here, as well as having Robert E Lee's boyhood home, atop a hill is the George Washington Masonic Memorial. I have to wonder what happened to this fair city, this cradle of liberty.

Sgt. Mucci: "--Look, I'm not here to debate with you over your rights
or the laws, we asked you to leave because management had a problem
so you can get out of here now. I'm done talking with you."

So, the Alexandria police are the law!!! This cop is what is wrong with many police today! They have a bad attitude and if they disagree with the law and a citizens' right to exercise that right, too bad! Management asked the cops if open carry were legal, that's all! Instead, this Sgt.Mucci lies to the citizen to violate his rights. Sounds like retraining, demotion or a good firing is in order!

To paraphrase an old Chicago saying, sue early and often.

It's clearly the only thing these idiots understand.

Maybe they and the Norfolk cops can find a nice underpass to share when they lose their homes.

It's getting to be expensive being a taxpayer in Virginia

To paraphrase an old Chicago saying, sue early and often.

$12M suit filed against Fairfax County in the death of optometrist in custody for illegal gambling; VT families demanding compenstation for loss of life; Norfolk, VA man falsely arrested for open carry plans to sue.

Take em to the cleaners.

As this criminal officer's actions are a violation of state law, stick it to em in state court, mercilessly.

Personally, I think it's high time to start treating these criminal cops like the criminals they are, no more giving in to intimidation.

These JBT cops need to be educated or removed from the force.
People like that can't BE educated. They're as mindlessly malicious as any gangbanger.

The only "education" for them is for the county sheriff to haul their goods off to auction and throw them out of their homes.

Tyrannies arise when opportunistic functionaries don't feel as though they're in any danger from their opportunism. Alexandr Solzhenitsyn writes very convincingly in "The Gulag Archipelago" that had the intended victims fought back with every weapon at their disposal, the Soviet purges would have been of an entirely different nature. Those who profited from the savage exploitation of others wouldn't have been so eager to join the NKVD if with every arrest they made, they faced the danger of a butcher knife, club or pot of boiling water.

If EVERY time a cop committed a crime against a lawful gun owner, they faced a lawsuit directed personally against THEM, with NO possibility of out of court settlement, abusing the public wouldn't seem like so much fun. There'd be an object lesson to others in seeing the cops in the Norfolk incident, destitute and homeless. Likewise in this case.

Gun owners need to declare a war of no quarter in the courts against abusive police.

Aren't officers supposed to uphold the constitution and law, like any other member of the executive branch, or government at all?

If he actually said that, I'm hoping for a firing. No free country needs that kind of officer on the streets.

1. I have little doubt that the VCDL is the best state gun rights group in the country, and better than most national groups. If there was a VCDL in every state we'd be in far better shape.

2. The police involved need to be fired.

3. I love that the state motto of Virginia is "Sic Semper Tyrannis"

I give kudos to the guy the cops hassled. He was in his rights, knew the law, knew there was no problem with the business in the way of policy, in fact he was frequently OC in there, the guard probably knew him by name as well as by gun.....
This is bad cop. They responded to a concerned citizen's call that a guy was openly carrying a gun on a night when a lot of children were around. Okay. That's their job. They asked him outside to avoid a scene in the store. That's also somewhat legit, from a retail standpoint. The leader could have been a bit kinder in the process, bu maybe he was used to punks getting smart with him. The "suspect" could have given his last name, as a matter of courtesy, though he is certainly under no legal obligation to do so.

Now, the grilling begins: The cops should have allowed him to return to the store armed, as he was legally allowed to carry, regardless of whether someone is frightened. In fact, it might have been an enlightening moment for them, as the afore-mentioned "suspect" talked with the police, and was not arrested, therefore he is allowed to carry. The manager could have informed the person (if they complained to her) that he was allowed to carry as per store policy.

The entirety of this situation revolves around people not knowing/caring about the law, or their rights. Had the caller known that someone OC is perfectly legal, they wouldn't have called. The cop was out of line, and given the history of that deparment, he should have known better. People need to realize that carrying is for defense, not show. Criminals don't OC.
Given the body counts over the PS2 and X-box 360 on release nights, I'd say it's only common sense to be armed at a big release event, though I don't see gangstas shooting people for HP books.

Incompetent, tyrannical cops do great damage to our respect for the law. The police need to police their own ranks.

Actually, I believe he is. There was a supreme court ruling recently that basically said you can not refuse to identify yourself to a police officer, or at the very least you are not immune to prosecution should you chose to do so. Some guy from Nevada got busted for it and the case went to the supreme court and he lost.

Actually, the SC ruled that if your state REQUIRES you to identify yourself to the police on demand, and you refuse, that you maybe prosecuted BY YOUR STATE. If VA or whatever state in which you happen to be when you're questioned by the police does NOT have a legal requirement to identify yourself, the cops are just out of luck. As to the SPECIFIC requirements of identification, depending upon statutory language, first name may indeed be sufficient. That is on a state by state basis.

Attitudes...

The building was not posted "No Weapons". I have no idea what the cop was referring to as 'playground'. It's a book store. Security had no problem with it. Having been a 'big city' cop myself... these clowns had no business being cops. 'Doesn't matter what LAW you AGREE with or not... or whose nose gets bent outt'a joint because of it. You do NOT interpret the law as a cop... That's for the Judge. You only have one thing goin' on... A CRIME is obviously about to be... being, or has been committed. Eastern cops are not yet accustomed to seeing armed citizens. Here... (Arizona) it's not even an issue.

The store has an area devoted to children's books, and is more-or-less set up in play-area fashion. I don't think the couch in question is in the kids' area unless things have changed since I was last there. I think the couch is sort of in between the magazines and the kids' area. Mucci is something else. I've known her for nearly 20 years. Maybe its time for her to retire.

You know, Henry Rollins once said something that about sums up how ai feel about this nonsense...

But if I said it it would of course be cop bashing.

Translation: "I don't care if what you are doing is lawful, I don't like it and I am much higher on the food chain than you. I am the law."

People with attitudes like that need to be removed from LAW ENFORCEMENT quickly and permanently.
